Summary of Last Few Days

*Tahu is about to sign a 3 year deal pending an official release from the ARU

*Mortimer will be pursued hard by the dogs come the end of 2010

*Eels are interested and apparently leading the race for Thurston

*2 spots available in 2010 squad, one of which will most likely go to Tim Smith depending on the result of a shoulder reco, the other to a 50-70k lower end player
*Casper and musashi are hinting at a signing for either 2010 or 2011 that is bigger than Thurston

*One player, most likely Grothe/Burt will be released to make way for Tahu

*Ossie said no more BIG name signings for season 2010, and has publicly denied the Thurston rumours even though the SMH, Sam Ayoub and the Telegraph state the opposite

*At the end of 2010 we will have 2 million free under the cap, and many suggest this is when the clean out will begin

Wow what a last few days for the Eels,
have I forgotten anything?

That 2 million includes guys like Inu(re-sign 200K), Mateo(re-sign 250K), KK(re-sign 150K), Mortimer (re-sign 150K) and Hayne (re-sign 400K). If you that we are able to re-sign these guys (which should be a prority) and now the addition on Tahu (350K from 2011 onwards) we will probably only have 400-500K to spend on additional players. (assuming guys like Hauraki, Oake and Cayless leave the club)

Cannot see Mateo being given the axe. It wouldn't make sense to make our backrow even worse than it currently is to marginally improve our already strong outside backline.

It would be nice if we could get all ou re-signings done before November 1. Mateo, Hayne, Mortimer,INU,KK. One massive announcement.

This important thing aswell is that if we can re-sign these guys until guys like Tahu and Hindy retire (prob at end of 2012-2013) then we will have to bring in other players...

The club already extended Mortimor's contract once this year, there were probably reasons for that on either our end or his end so I'd say he's the least likely of players to agree to terms. Never know with Osbourne and his new way of thinking thoug.h

Morts was extended for a season well before he hit first grade, meaning there were a lot of questions still hovering over him. he's quoted in todays DT that he was very happy with signing the year long extension at the time it was offered by Parra.

I'm sure now he has been given the opportunity and gone quite well that the 'new way of thinking' would be implimented in his next contract negotiations, from both sides. Ossie can't have gushed much more over him of late.

He went for 1 yr cos he wanted to back him self.Thats obvious. Unless parra are stupid they WILL not let him go.He would be stupid to go to the dogs anyway cos i would say kimmorly will be there post 2010 anyway, along with Rogers re signing. Having said that i would say he is really happy getting his shot this year even though many people said he wasnt ready when i told u all he was ready after round 3. I think he will repay that faith and stay with a team and coaching staff who are moving forward.

How do you work out that "one of those spots will most likely go to Tim Smith"? That`s just wishful thinking. (And I hope you`re wrong, by the way.)
