Are you kidding? Salford should be in top 6 contention. It's between Castleford and Wakefield, the signing of a workhorse prop doesn't move them from relegation to top 6 contenders.

actually as a final signing for the closed season Ithink it probably does...

wakefields main problem last season was defence and, whe push came to shove, they lacked the will to out-fight the opposition.. further complicated by the recruitment of a sub standard conditioner.. the players did not have the energy or the mental stregnth for the battle.....

Yet they still won at Leeds, and doubled Wigan and champs Bradford.. which is testament to the fact they can play... and players of the calibre of Solomona and new england international Darryl Griffin wil have both bnefitted from the international season. Even 2004 top meter maker Michael Korkidas has shed the bulk he was given last year and is working hard on speed and agility.

the club have to be credited for countering the failings from last year by adding new aggression and desire to the pack with the addition of Betham (a natural leader of men that we also lacked last year), Catic and Henderson... however and perhaps most important is the recruitment of Anthony Hazledene from the Australian institute of sport as head conditioner... his methods and influence are far beyond anything currently in the english game.

the team have all the pieces in place to improve on the 2004 performance when the easily qualiied top 6..

Tony Smith has given the team a shake up and bought in a couple of young english bolters with real potential as well as some steady nrl perfromers... Trinity will not win anything in 2006, but they will shake a few trees, and wait for the monkeys to fall.

however.. I do think that there is no clear cut relegation favourite this year.. teams as high as 5th in the league may still be under threat of relegation by the final month of the season... Even this year's champs Bradford who have lost some real talent and have recruited very poorly (in my opinion) could be dragged into the dog fight.

You forgot to add the most important positive of all, Jamie Rooney will be back and that will be like a new signing, just hope he has more luck with injuries in 2006.

Any News on what the Hull Squad is going to look like?

Pretty much the same as last year but without Stephen Kearney, Richie Barnett (winger) and Paul McNicholas. Eng International Lee Radford has joined his home town club from Bradford and Sid Domic has joined from Wakefield.

The names to watch out for are Thomas Lee and Danny Washbrook, maybe Lee isn't quite ready just yet being only 17 but these two are awesome young players.

Hull's squad has good depth,I was struggling to work out a team as most fans I asked had completely different opinions.

I reckon you got it about right. I think Whiting and Brough will fight it out to partner Horne and with the way Tony played in the Tri Nations there's no way he wont make the 17. There's also Lupton to consider though. Before his injury worries he was playing great. We always looked a better side when he came off the bench. But he's been out for a full season and it's going to be hard for him to get his cance. We're spoiled for choice in the play making positions right now. Never thought I'd get to say that about Hull!

We're also expected to add Adi Adebesi from London who's a great prospect on the wing. Good job too because Raynor is pretty injury prone and the thought of Knock On Tommy on the wing fills me with dread.

I've pieced together Les Catalan's squad from their website. It's not an actual press release though, more like player profiles with squad numbers on,so may be a tad inaccurate.

Sinfield will continue to play stand off for most of the season with Ellis at loose forward.

Having Burrow, McGuire and Mathers on the field at the same team would seem a very weak defensive line for me. Where would they hide them all?

Oh but the likes of long, gardner and meli are solid rocks in defence aren't they.

That looks a slight improvement on last years' to me. Will they push for the six again?
