Looking forward to some confirmation, as yet there is nothing on the Eurosport website. I think the coverage will probably start around Easter.

Any further news on this? Seems just conjecture at this point, tho RFL have always maintained that they are in negotiation with Aus TV networks. Eurosport would be a great choice, and make a mockery of the likes of nine and foxtel and their unsurpassed RL coverage

The Stobart Super League returns to television sets in Australia following the news that the Eurosport Channel has taken on the rights.

Eurosport is available to Foxtel, Austar and TransACT users.

Not all online TV guides have been updated yet to accomodate the sudden arrival of the Super League competition onto the Eurosport Channel - please check with Eurosport AU and your PayTV provider as to whether the times for Super League are correct.

Super League has received very poor coverage in Australia despite the great popularity Rugby League enjoys in Australia on television, radio, print media and online media and the viewer demand for Rugby League is immense in Australia with the game consistently the No.1 ratings product on free-to-air and pay television.

Congratulations to Eurosport Australia for taking on the Super League and hopefully it becomes a ratings success for the network.

Just watched it. Hooray!

Pretty nice ground at Warrington.
Btw which is St Helen's derby? I'm sure they said this game was a derby, then later they said watch next week for Saints derby with Wigan? And Warriingtons derby with Widnes?
Every game a derby these days???

lol I don't they're "true" derbies like Hull v HKR but Wigan/Saints seems to be the biggest rivalry in SL.

Warrington, Wigan, St Helens and Widnes are all Lancashire clubs. So it's like when Brisbane play North Queensland and Gold Coast, they are Queensland derbies. St Helens v Wigan is the biggest rivalry, but they both have rivalries with Warrington and the games have a bit extra now that Warrington have a top side on the field.

They are a bit closer than Brisbane and Townsville though!!

All 4 towns are like the corners of a square. Saints top left, Wigan top right, Warrington bottom right and Widnes bottom left.

The clubs main rivalries have always been the teams at right angles on the square. so for Saints its Widnes and Wigan, for Wigan its Saints and Warrington and so on.

The traditional Easter fixtures are/were Warrington-Widnes and Saints-Wigan on good Friday. Followed by Warrington-Wigan and Saints-Widnes on the Monday.

Saints Warrington only got big due to the stupid record of Saints wins and as Homer said, Warrington actually got good.

Ta guys, I knew they were close but I'm obviously not up on the rivalry side of things, except I know Saints call Wgan 'pie eaters' or similar... Hahaha, I don't mind a pie myself.

Salford wouldn't be that far from Wigan at a guess, do they come into it? (apart from being shit over recent years).

Not really. Salford is pretty much part of Manchester, the others are all similar-sized towns in Lancashire (although technically, none of the towns are in the county of Lancashire). Salford's traditional rivals were Swinton, who were also based in the City of Salford, but they have been in decline since the 1970's and are pretty much a none-entity now, they don't even have their own ground any more.

Also, pie-eaters isn't an insult, it's a nickname for people from Wigan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigan#.22Pie-eaters.22

No one cares about Salford unless you are from Swinton.

It came from when they broke the picket at a miners strike and had to eat humble pie.

Being a called a scab is about the biggest insult you could say to someone at the time in the NW of England. Even now people are very disliked if they cross the line. The meaning is lost now (especially as the mines shut) but its not meant in a nice way.

Basically its saying do not trust them. They will stab you in the back (and break the salary cap).

Wigan versus Saints was a belter of a game. Superleague should look at a ten team comp. If they merge the Hull clubs as a start then their comp can be NRL like in strength and the product will be ten fold better as the fact is there are six clubs who are very good and eight who are making up the numbers.

The crowd baiting by Hock and Tomkins was gold. We need more of it in the NRL. That passion is what makes games electric to witness regardless of the result.
