I've just had a tooth pulled and it cost 500 dollars! I know that dentistry is expensive but 500 for one tooth?

I went on the weekend to have it checked and the dentist told me it would be about 160. however when pulling it today, it broke and he said it became a surgical extraction and would be a lot more.

It wasn't a wisdom tooth or anything and I had a tooth removed at the same place 6 months ago that was also surgical and it was 260.

Does that sound about right?
