 check this out from JA - from a topic called 'Is the reason the NRL is having a down year because Saints are not performing?'

Priceless.

Listening in to MMM today and they were rattling on a laundry list of things that fans are unhappy about and saying how the popularity of the NRL is going down this year.

How much can the success of arguably the most popular team in the Dragons help explain this? Most Dragons fans by this point know Saints are no chance this year and be as one eyed as we are may be paying less attention to the NRL as a whole. Is it just co-incidence or is it a major reason that the NRL's popularity surged during the three successful Bennett years? Fans of other teams love to hate the Dragons so that keeps them interested when Saints are doing well.

Is this view an over valuing of the Dragons? Is the real reason the NRL is having a down year due to the drugs scandal, shoulder charge ban, referees being sh*thouse as usual, bad weather etc etc?

Saints and Broncs performing poorly are one of the reasons.

It's not the only reason, but it is one.
