Dragons are allegedly chasing Mullen. Be nice to get one back on that merkin Bennett. :p Doubt it will happen, but bloody hell that'd be an awesome signing. Widdop and Mullen as a halves pairing would make me feel warm in all the right places.

Mullen >>>> Williams. I'm as frustrated as anyone that we're not giving Williams a go, but Price obviously favours Witt, and we saw what he did with Fien last year. He wouldn't be able to leave Mullen rotting in reggies.

Williams getting a decent run would be a start.

And frankly the Dragons have far more pressing concerns at present. Their backline is young and quality. Their forward pack is shithouse outside Merrin and Creagh (at club level anyway). If you were recruiting that's where they should be looking for players. Especially hooker

The money they'd have to commit to Mullen would be misguided. Williams has, whenever having some sort of run, show some form before getting dropped again. See what you've got there, if you have a reasonable halfback inside the very dangerous Widdopp, with Dugan at fullback and a quality three quarter line you want them getting decent service, which depends on a good hooker (which it is becoming more apparent Rein isn't) and forwards laying a decent platform (which i'd question the ability of most of the Dragons ones).

It's not about Mullen being better than Williams (he is) it's about the Dragons having other options (if not Williams maybe Quinlan, Stanley) and other priorities.

Mullen would probably be the least likely player to leave the Knights all things considering. He is easily the club's #1 priority.

A Gidley extension would have to be up there. You know based on "locker room presence" and "leadership". Or something. But certainly not due to on field form.

Yes, I was going to add that sadly, Gidley leaving would probably also be up there...

Our forwards aren't bad, per se. The wrong ones keep getting played, and the current ones are in the wrong position. Should be:

8. Merrin
9. Rein (pains me to say that)
10. Stockwell
11. Thompson
12. Creagh
13. De Belin

14. Ah Mau
15. Frizzell
16. Cooper
17. Garvey / Witt (hooker)

We're probably on the smaller side, and thats one of our issues. But if Price stuck a bit of mongrel in them we'd compete well enough. Cooper is a bit like James Graham in that he is a long minute player with a strong workrate. Let Stockwell and Merrin cop the big hits early on, weather it and then slot Cooper in for the rest of the game.

Rotate Stockwell, Frizzell and Ah Mau for the props and get them running hard and off the first and second hit up, get Merrin in at third to roll over the advantage line then either go down the left / right for Thompson / Creagh for impact before spreading down the backline. Jack is basically a tackling demon and assists in the metres gain when we're bringing it out of our own half.

The problem is we keep playing Dan 'Soft Hunt', who is a waste of space and overweight.

 I got a good laugh out of that one. Well done Hoppity, very sly and clever humour there. Would read again.

6. Maloney
7. Pearce

14. Gidley

You just know its going to happen. Only one of them deserves to be there.

Yeah. Again though, you won't get the best out of that pack with Rein at hooker. If a decent dummy half is on the market that is wher eyou should throw some money.

I was on the bandwagon giving it to Rein before the season started, but he has been good so far this year. I'm also not aware of a decent hooker being on the market. If only Garvey didn't decide to be a complete dickhead (frankly, I thought we should have sacked him). Rein + Garvey is a combo that could work.

His service from dummy half is the problem. Sure, I don't want him throwing forward passes like one Cam Smith ( ;-) ) but getting the ball out in front of the running forwards is somewhat essentialy to his position. That, and a little forsight on where the pack is going, so he can ensure we're moving up the park, not side to side.

Even so, as JM said, his form this year hasn't been bad and he's playing better than I would normally give him credit for.

Garvey would have been a cracker bench hooker. Very clever boy on the field. Dumb as the proverbial off it, judging by his indiscretions.
