If centres had it so tough why is that the first place coaches send shit defending halves.

Because they don't make as many tackles. But when the attack isolates a poor defender hiding at centre more often than not they score. A good centre will still make the right decision when isolated.

Shit defending centres are exposed even more with shitty sliding defence. Even the best defending centres have a hard time if the whole team isn't going at it. That's why Cooper was basically a god, he was already a beast, and that dragons team was ridiculous.
