so the mother in law-had-her phone stolen..
i thought as a good son-in-law i'd surprise her with a replacement for christmas.
thought i'd been able to get her exactly the same model as what she had..
but alas, it was different and a little harder to use..
so said i'd get her another one..
needed the phone to be unopened to be able to return it, however she'd opened it and had taken a couple of photos at christmas..
so was in the process of making it look 'unopened' to get my cash back on the phone and get another one..
but then remembered the photos on the phone needed to be deleted..
so turned it on, said it needed a sim card to work..
so i took the sim out of my phone and inserted it..
forgetting that my sim was a small one..
and this phone had a slot for a large one..
as i watch my sim card disappear into the phone i say 'fiddle dee dee, that is annoying'..
any attempt by my fat fingers, or even a pair of tweezers to remove the sim prove fruitless, only helping to further entrench my sim in this god forsaken phone..
i try unscrewing it, but didn't have a micro-screwdriver small enough..
so i was left with three decisions, each with their own opportunity cost..
- decision 1 - take phone to phone repair shop and get them to remove it. opportunity cost of what they would charge me, plus time away from work today on a busy day..
- decision 2 - just push that card as far as possible in the phone, continue 'operation re-box' and just return the phone, then ring and ask for a new sim for myself. opportunity cost of not having my own phone working for NYE, plus a potential charge for a new sim..
- decision 3 - open the phone by any means possible and retrieve my sim. opportunity cost of potentially not being able to return the phone at all, foregoing the money i paid for the phone..
so i made my decision.
and i stand by it.
got a phone for sale if anyone wants it.. only slight cosmetic damage...
