I agree the Chinese are shocking tourists, they just become ruder than normal and a law unto themselves. South Africans are horrible too, and the English have been 50/50 as tourists as well.
I know they use 'Ugly American' a lot to describe a bad tourist, but I find young Aussies are every bit as bad if not worse. So many entitled bogans out there.
I literally had to intervene on a bus tour in New Zealand when a drunk Aussie kept hitting on the too-polite-to-say-go-away German next to him. She endured it for about an hour before finally saying "I'm flattered, but not interested. I'd like to just look out the window".
He got irate, called her a merkin and a tease, and had his friends join in. I eventually switched seats with her so she could sit next to my girlfriend and escape from it.
I love it. I've been on three Chinese tours and every time I told myself 'never again.' I went to Dali and 'Shangri-La' with one group and I got tour group branded pyjamas which was was pretty sweet.
Once there are more than five people of one nationality in a travelling group things can get troublesome. Frat Boys, Bogans and Pommie 'Gap Yah' groups are probably the worst but that's largely because I understand them. Kiwis always seem to be lone insane people.
I wish it was just limited to tours. Put 5+ Chinese people together and they become a nightmare
It's so strange, because I struggle to think of an individual Chinese person I haven't found to be respectful and nice (aside from f**king racist cab drivers). Ask them to line up for something though, and it's f**king Gattaca.
