Been reading a book I picked up in Tassie called Shadow of the Thylacine. Probably not much interest to most but with my studies in ecology etc I've always been fascinated by it.
Something I didn't realise, and that I find mind blowing, is that the Tassie govt spend or have spent millions of dollars a year on baiting and trapping for foxes, and yet refuse to entertain any kind of concerted effort to find the Thylacine. That may not sound unusual, except that there are not and never have been foxes In Tasmania, while the govt itself accepts that a ranger encountered a Thylacine in the fking 1980s.....some fifty years after it supposedly went extinct! Not to mention the alleged accidental shooting of one in 1990...
