Manga is shit.

On the off chance that BM shares this opinion, how bloody good is manga?

Technically, it is anime.
Manga is the static image 'comic' format.

Akira, NGE, Ghost in the Shell, anime like this is top shelf storytelling and in no way should be lumped in with DBZ.

It's like lumping 'Foreign Correspondant' in with ACA FFS!

I consider myself a bit of a cinephile and I would put Akira up with almost any film made in the past 25 years. Stunning movie in a lot of ways. I also think the Studio Ghibli films like Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro are some of the best kids movies ever made. Shame that the form has such a stigma because of extremely banal action TV shows like Dragon Ball Z and Naruto.

In other news, up the Socceroos! 2nd half was the best 45 I've seen from us since the Japan game.

Ghibli have an incredible range of films, but are best known for their kids movies.
Add in the likes of 'Grave of the Fireflies' (one of the saddest films I've ever seen), Mononoke and Nausicaa to see what they are really capable of in terms of storytelling for more than kids.

I have seen all of those films but only really enjoyed Grave of the Fireflies, which as you said is incredibly sad.

I wasn't aware it was produced by Ghibli, probably because it's not made by Miyazaki.

lol @ Dragonball Z
It wasn't that it was shit but it took soooo long for anything to actually happen....one whole episode of somebody just powering up, a whole month for a fight to finish....I guess that is actually kind of shit now I think of it

A lot of people don't even touch a lot of the Ghibli films and just stick to the ones made by Miyazaki, which is a pity really. Although in saying that. Laputa and Nausicaa are two of my favourite films. They are just phenomenal.

I got to admit, when I see somebody with a DBZ avatar I become ridiculously judgmental.

Shonen anime has it's place and for what it was, DBZ ticked pretty much all the boxes.

It was a dumb show and the padding was ridiculous but at the end of the day it was just a cartoon really. Barely any of them hold up.
