Swans v Lions

With the Lions likely to be missing Lynch and definately Brown, and Voss and Leppitsch returning from injuries - how do you think the Swans will fare at the Gabba on Saturday night?

It is of course always hard to win up there but Sydney did do it last year. In fact the Swans were able to beat the Lions in Sydney and Brisbane. Unfortunately, we couldn't do it when it really mattered in the preliminary final :(

I just hope the Swans can spoil the Lions flag unfurling parade.

I am hoping you are wrong Beaussie and that the Lions can comfortably defeat the Swans.

the Gabba is an amazing ground to watch AFL at (not that I have watched AFL anywhere else) and the atmosphere generated by the fans is just incredible. The Lions definitely seem to lift at home, which I think will be their main advantage over the Swans for this game.

I believe the Lions have the depth to cover the likes of Brown and Lynch, although they are both substantial losses to the squad.

Fellow Swans supporters of mine have rated the Gabba the best AFL venue in the country. It sure is hard to win up there when the crowd is pretty much all Lions supporters.

The Lions will also have the added bonus of playing in front of their home crowd after unfurling last years premiership flag. Gees you guys are gonna run out of flagpoles at the rate your going. :)

Meanwhile the Swans have some serious injury concerns that have me very nervous about this game.

haha, I'm sure we can erect a few more flagpoles smewhere around the ground ;-)

I'd be worried too if I was a Swans supporter, with or without injuries amongst the squad :p The Lions are going to destroy them!!!

I certainly hope your wrong and we have a repeat of last year at the Gabba.

I'd love to see that smirk wiped off Aker's face.

pmsl, you and every other opposition supporter (and even some of our own). Aker's confidence often crosses the line of arrogance, but I think he's fantastic and a great entertainer within the game.

it will be a tough game, as both teams have their injuries, but it will no doubt be a great match, no matter which team come away victorious. I wish I could be at the Gabba but I have a commitment elsewhere.

Jason Ball's kick for goal was so heartbreaking. Gees we had that game. Damn Lions. At least Aker was kept quiet for most of the night and the commentators in Melbourne surely must be reconsidering thier claims that the Swans would struggle this year.

The Swans wont struggle this year, they havea good squad and will be stronger from their Finals experience last year.

I only got to watch the last 2 quarters of the match, but it looked like an extremely intense match. Both sides would have been deserving victors, but I sure am glad it went the Lions way.

Had to feel for him when he missed that kick for goal, I thought he had it for sure.

Yes..a good game and I thought the Lions had fluffed it when Ball lined that shot up. The Swans always seem to play well against the Lions. I wouldn't be surprised if we see these two teams go at it during the final series.

As for grounds, the Gabba is a great venue because even though it's playing surface is bigger than most grounds, the stands are very close. The MCG is the best stadium to watch AFL at just for its sheer size. I saw Collingwood (spit!) play Carlton there in 1991 or something in front of 92,000 people. Amazing to feel the energy of so many rabid supporters. But I tend to enjoy the Gabba, mainly because I am a Lions fan and its a 5 minute walk from home, but I also love its accessability and its atmosphere.
