that why I say our swimmers should try to get into their college system but I don't know if it works that way.

College Basketball system a few Aussie players have gone there - also, I have no idea how it works??

Interesting point with college swimming.
I think though that would probably clash with AIS?

Of all the gold we had won in the pool at the Olympics prior to Athens, AIS swimmers never had a single one to their name. Jodie Henry changed that.

Miami Pool at the Gold Coast had a great record, but so much now. I was a Sydney sider then anyway - also I'm a blue

yes the aussie swimmers would need to sacrifice assistance from the AIS and other sponsorship I think because the NCAA is amateur only from what I understand (it certainly is for college football and basketball). Thats probably where the idea ends.

Dude - you need to check out Federica Pellegrini - absolutely stunning. And former swimmers Franziska van Almsik and Haley Cope.

They make Maddie look rather plain...

Steph Rice was always a good one in that regard too lol

Well they'd go over to study, work for a scolarship I guess....but they'd probably be vulnerable to being poached.
Also, there's a lot of young swimmers...14, 15 etc...

I think the Yanks are just better because they have more population, more resources and more money.
We can hope to reenact a similar high pressure scenario but sometimes our swimmers are just outmatched.
And the thing is, American swimmers do not have the same level of pressure....they're a team of superstars and even if they win silver or bronze it seems like their media are equally as happy.

So they pretty much swim with more of a competitive streak but also have far less pressure on their shoulders.

Also it seems like everyone wants our coaches these days.

Excuses.
Imagine my surprise.

a bit judgmental there Nick, the coaches were aware there was something wrong with him and hooked him from the 4 X 200 relay,

do you know something they dont ?

From what I know they can still be paid their support money by Swimming Australia and attend universities over there on athletic scholarships. The scholarships in the US are worth a ridiculous amount - upwards of US$50,000 and that was from my experience back in the early 2000s. They include all university fees, on campus accommodation and food, all training, and medical and a small allowance. I believe they can still get medal and performance bonuses from the government, etc too.

Sponsorship by someone such as Nike would void collegiate eligibility.
