Does anybody here seriously think that the game is ready in Perth and Adelaide to relocate or create a new team? CC definitely. But Melbourne has been an utter disaster from the viewpoint of marketing. (They are a fantastic team and successful on the field though). Those of you who have been there will tell you that the local VFL competition gets more coverage than the Storm. Imagine in the next year or so when most of their good talent leaves due to the Salary cap what crowds they will get. News props the club up and if they decide to pull up stumps, where does that leave Melbourne? Perth and Adelaide are to far off in the distance to take seriously yet.

Based on the few seasons that both Perth and Adelaide had teams I don't think they'd have any problems supporting a NRL team.

Both of them are more open sporting cultures than Melbourne and both have significantly less competition from the other local teams in the four main football comps (NRL, HAL, AFL, S14).

The big difference between Melbourne and Perth is Melbourne have 10 other AFL teams. Perth have 2 and is the 3rd largest Rugby League state in Australia. Also many people from NSW and QLD have moved to Perth due to the mining boom. Perth needs a Team and the Western reds were hard done by when they were booted out. Hopefully over the next few years the NRL will take some games to Perth to test the water. If successful a Perth team could come around much qucker then you think. I don't think any of the Sydney teams will get cut but one will relocate to CC. So with the NRL keen for another queensland team it makes sense to add another team to make it 18 teams. It will also give the NRL an extra game each week and of course a new market in Perth.

Yes. ONe which if given an equal share of population with the Farce, Eagles and Dickers would be a population smaller than Newy WITHOUT the coalfields. Or the Central Coast.

And they won't get an even split.

It's not about putting dots on a map. It's about meeting market demand - which exists in Gosford, Sunshine Coast, and another Brisbane side.

Didn't Cronulla play NZ or SOuths over there a few years ago and got 11 000? What's the point?

That's like saying the third most sucessful car manufacturer at last year's Bathurst 1000.

I'm for a team in Perth, howeer the NRL have NO INTEREST in doing so otherwise they would be making plans to do so.

It needs to be done. It is perfect for TV. Games beamed to the east coast in a good time slot. Would add value, oh that's right News don't won't to pay more do they?

Also aren't the Super 14's going to a longer season?

Ans as a result getting a better TV deal. Why we sit on our hands, great work Dave.

Now, what time was the Storm v Manly game shown in Melbourne?

I would rather have 10,000 people turning up in Canberra, Melbourne, NZ, Perth, Adelaide than 10,000 turning up in Parramatta, Campbelltown etc.

Its not just about crowd numbers, its about giving people the oppurtunity to go to the game. People in Sydney have no idea how lucky they are, they're spoilt for choice and take the game for granted.

How do you think people in Perth and Adelaide and up to 2 years ago people in GC feel when they don't have an option whatsoever. You give people an option there is room for growth, Sydney has so many options yet has no growth.

Many of the so called issues have been covered by the media over the last month. It looks like their might be some action moving forward but like anything it will take time.

The NRL is still the best rugby comp in the World. The crowds we get are also the best club rugby crowds in the World.

If league can build it's club membership "Which it is" the Sydney clubs will be okay moving forward. All the other codes are just waiting for League to relocate or kill teams in Sydney so they can move in and get a new market from disgruntled fans.

ANZ is the problem at the moment. The stadium is not designed for league. They should increase the capacity of Parramatta stadium to 40,000 and play the game out of there and SFS. Keep ANZ for SOO and Grand Finals.

If the NRL is still the best Rugby comp in the world then it should be part of Rugby.

I still have not heard any reason to cull a sydney team
Will we get
More crowds - No - we loose fans from the sydney team , we loose derby matches , we loose that teams fans all around the country
<ore merchandise Sales - No - we loose a team we loose thier merchandise
More pay tv money - No - people will give up paying if thier team isnt in it
More FTA money - nope less fans in the biggest market
More sponsors money - nope taking out a team in the largest business market

I definatley see we should expand but not at the expense of a sydney club - I am in business (Commercial manager -large multinational) and it just doesent make sense as a business decision as well as the emotional issues

We should be focusing on making more money for those clubs and thier is a lot all of them can do to improve thier positions

Can you name a sport or code other than AFL that has a national competition with 9 teams in one city?

Same as Balmain and Wests, do the numbers. They currently average 15-16,000 and are in the 8. If Wests and Balmain played today they would easily average 10,000 each (being conservative) considering they maximise crowds by playing at ANZ also the comp is alot more equal due to the cap.

English soccer has about 10 clubs in London.

Also you are comparing sports that are national, whereas league and AFL have grown from these leagues. It would be suicide to ignore it, it is our strength not weakness. Too many clubs in Sydney is NOT the problem it's News Ltd's stifling agenda of our game.
