The Sydney Roosters have this afternoon appointed former Australian and two time premiership winning coach, Chris Anderson, as head coach.
Anderson has agreed to a two year contract to coach of the Sydney Roosters in their historic 100th season in 2007 and the games Centenary in 2008.
Roosters Chairman Nick Politis was enthusiastic about the appointment.
“Chris’ appointment follows a detailed selection process over many weeks.
“Chris brings with him a wealth of coaching and playing experience.
“Above this is his outstanding record as a mentor to young players in their rugby league careers.
“Naturally, with Chris’ experience and success comes an ability to develop a winning culture at the Roosters.
“I am also pleased to announce that Brad Fittler will join Chris as his Assistant Coach”, he concluded.
Anderson joins the Roosters after leading the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Melbourne Storm to NRL premierships in 1995 and 1999 respectively and enjoyed 5 successful years as Australian Coach from 1999-2003.
Anderson has played 232 first grade games for the Canterbury Bulldogs between 1971-84 and represented Australia in 8 Tests, the 1975 World Cup and two Kangaroos Tours in 1978 and 1982. Anderson was also a member of the Widnes Challenge Cup winning side in 1974-75.
Anderson was captain-coach of Halifax RLFC from 1985-88 where he enjoyed great success including the 1986-87 Challenge Cup victory against St Helens.
“To join the only Australian Foundation Club, to have played ever year in their 100th season is a great honour.
“I wish to genuinely thank the Board of Directors and the club for having confidence in me to carry on the great traditions of the Sydney Roosters”. Anderson concluded.
An announcement regarding the full coaching structure will be made within the next fortnight.

Top move.

He is tough and uncompromising. Attitude is what we lack, Opes has it in spades.

Freddy is obviously being groomed for the future. They have a positive history together also.

Have faith.

EASTS TO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he gets rid of the flat attack and we say no to Kimmorley that will be good.
I think he can turn his carreer around here. He will want to prove his critics at the Sharks wrong etc.

I've always respected the Roosters and the professional way they operate, but for godsake Opes. Andoball expired in the 90's (as we discovered) and he wont rub with Politis. Anyway good luck and if you want Noddy too, you are welcome to him.

can't say i'm overly impressed by this, nor dare i say it, fittler as assistant coach. i guess though judgement will come in whether they take the field as a consistent team week in and week out next year or the jekyll and hyde outfit of this season.

if we sign noddy i will refuse to support the first grade team and will strictly only be interested in flegg/PL

fittler assistant is a poor decision aswell, great player, great coach? where's his credentials?

JT, sticky, great young coaches and great former players, all with lower grade success, wheres freddys initiation?

I think it is agood decision, How Nick handles him will be interesting butthe club wont sign Kimmorley, They have 3 young halves and there is his contract with the Sharks that will stop Brett coming as well as the cap.

The players all like playing for him and he gives guys a go which is all they ask.

Tim Sheens got bumped by the Cowboys and became a better coach as a result ... premiership to prove it. If Anderson has learnt his lessons from the Cronulla debacle, there's no reason why he can't bring some stability and grit to the Roosters ...

Ive never respected the Taddies. Theyve won how many comps????

Gus and Stuart never had total control??? Seriously.

Ando-ball is what?? Expired when?? Just like Wazza-ball supposedly went out in the 80s?? 2002-04 proved that wrong.

Thanks for the luck call, but Taddie luck aint needed at Bondi. Neither is Noddy. Lewis, Soward, Anasta and Pearce will do us.

Professional and Taddies in the same sentence?? You have no-idea thats for sure.

BTW thanks for Nutley, cant believe youse let him go.

:D :D
