The NSWRL will next season operate a new competition catering for those clubs with a Bundaberg Red Cup team and wishing to operate a reserve grade and also those clubs who wish to make the step up to BRC however want a year or two to test the water.

Formally known as the Sydney Shield, the competition will be open to all clubs across the Sydney Metropolitan area and beyond and operate under a standard set of rules similar to the BRC with the conpetition being funded and administered by the NSWRL.

Any clubs wishing to participate or interested in receiving more information should contact sydneyshield12@gmail.com

More detail will be released in the coming days and weeks.

At this point in time there are 8 clubs participating with 2 more likely to come on board now it has been confirmed.

Ideally an 8 or 10 team comp from all over Sydney would be a great start although the more the merrier.

Will this be used as a feeder team of sorts ?meaning if I played in the shield for wenty and form warranted it, could I be bumped up straight into the wenty Bundy cup team ? And vice versa

Correct.
This will be a great stepping stone for young players who may need a little more time to develop.
It will provide a further development tool for clubs to produce players of a high standard and also assist with development of referees.

Clubs with Bundy teams will benefit and it will also give clubs without Bundy a chance to play at a higher level and develop their youth.
Clubs can also use it to develop themselves before entering the Bundy comp as it will give them a taste of what the semi professional comp is like.

This is a good move for Sydney rugby league.

should also be good for smaller clubs in the local A grade with the better players in the Sydney wide comp

Sure thing Bazza, we need these A grade comps for the players who want to have a run around with their mates.

This will cater for players and clubs who are a little more serious at this level.

At a meeting held today 7 clubs committed to play in the 2012 Sydney Shield with 3 more to confirm in the next few weeks.
The NSWRL has blessed the competition and will fully fund and administer it.
Those teams committed to play include, Mounties, Cabramatta, Wentworthville, Hills District, Liverpool Titans, Auburn & St Johns.
The competition will run over 18 rounds and mirror the BRC comp.

Havent they progressed quickly as a club. Didn't they only form a couple of years ago?

None from Souths/Easts/Manly/Cronulla/St. George. Should that be a concern?

Regarding St George + Cronulla, none of the clubs would be big enough to have a crack, barring Cronulla-Caringbah. Definitely none of the St George clubs.

Merrylands second division team couldn't buy a win this year so alot of them went down to there division 3 team. No suprise they ended up winning that Division. If guildford can keep most of there guys from last year they will be in with a decent chance .
