T-rex coming out admittng he lacked enthusisasm in 2012 confirms that he is a wasted talent...When he wants to play he is unstopppable..The article in todays paper confirmed to me to accecpt that he is on player that should not be signed for more then one year at a time.. how good would he play if he was payed bonuses for hit ups, line breaks, tackles etc..

Should some players have incentives in there contracts?

And yet, another club has thrown money at him to sign for them. Seems being disinterested and only turning up for the odd game is no disincentive to getting a big contract in the NRL.

FMD, defending premiers playing deep into the finals and he couldn't find motivation, he doesn't need incentives - he needs a good kick up the arse.

Manly fan posts a thread aiming at putting down T-Rex...

Why am I not surprised?

Yeah, he could have learnt a lot from someone like Gulavao who does little more than tuck the ball under his arm and run at the line (not dissimilar to Lang). With his size, T-Rex would be a wrecking ball but he prefers to stand back and push players away before trying to walk over the top of them.

Why can't Georgie lay off the hamburgers? Because he can't, Tony is the same, pea hearted douche with all the talent in the world, complete coward I thinks he needs a brain transplant with Travis Burns or Keiran Foran to be any good

He is of the islanders third gender

A couple of things George.....

- A stack of players already have some incentives in their contracts - maybe most. Even a coach like Wayne Bennett has incentives on top of his massive wage. Obviously players with bargaining power will have advantageous clauses in their contracts. Sh!t, Will Hoppa got Parra to sign his brother and his dad....how do they get Will to sign an incentive deal? Rumour is that the Bulldogs signed Inu in part to make it easier to get T Rex. Sounds like Tony is valued pretty highly by the clubs, a bit too high to be offered a 50/50 deal.

- It is hard to offer a player like T Rex incentives because you will want to pay him incentives for things he has already achieved and is using as his bargaining power. You might want to give him a bonus if he plays well because he will play for Aust or NSW, or maybe wins a premiership. He has already done those things and that is why he is getting a rumoured $500k a year from the Bulldogs. There probably are some cherries in his deal if he has a fat year but 90% of it would be guaranteed. If they had offered him $200k plus the chance to double that through incentives then T Rex would have signed with Manly or Parra.

- The players are currently talking up a strike to get more coin. This is guaranteed money, not incentive based. It is pretty much against the players psyche to sign predominantly incentive based deals. Especially rep players. Many incentives will probably be reliant on injuries throughout the year which is mainly luck on the players behalf. The move they are making is to have more certainty and higher pay, not less.

- Providing a player payment based primarily on stats like hit ups etc could lead to all sorts of problems. The first problem is that rep players already think they do the hard work and that is why they make rep teams, so they won't sign for you. Another problem would be that everyone in the club would know that you are getting paid by the hit up and every time you threw a bad dummy they would scowl lol.

On a personal level I think that much of the stuff players get paid for is ugly and we shouldn't encourage it. Forwards get paid on how slow they can make the play the ball and how well they wrestle just as much as the number of tackles they make. A forward won't get a bonus for averaging 20 tackles a game if 10 of them are soft or ineffective. I don't want to see players get paid on how bad they can make the game. Would be hard to work out anyway.
