I'd love Tahu, an amazing talent.
But for how much? I hear is asking for $300-$350K per season. At that price I do not want him. Under $200K and sign him I say.

For Tamazoid some FACTS!

McGoldrick

0.2 line breaks per game
57.7 metres gained per game
3.5 MISTACKLES PER GAME

Tahu

0.9 line breaks per game
107.6 metres gained per game
0.9 MISTACKLES PER GAME

Who's the turnstyle Tamazoid?
Another genius analysis from the king of stats.
Comparing a right winger with a left centre.

You are right in your questions 1200S, Goldy does the defensive work of most forwards & is "developing" very well for somebody with only 20 games of experience.
he is the most inexperienced player in our top squad, learning new defense patterns, techniques & combinations.

If he was a goal kicker he would be worth the $300k but without a golden boot behind him he's only worth $200k but I hope we don't sign him because i don't like him.

1200 Sharkettes,

McGoldrick makes 15.5 tackles per game.
Tahu makes 8.5 tackles per game.

So he makes almost double the tackles but this mis tackle ratio is almost 4-1 against Mcgoldrick.

Does McGoldrick make more tackles because people run at him being a weak link?

Also Tahu plays centre and winger for his club. But has been just used as a winger this year in SOO.

If you don't believe me BTR that Tahu has played a fair bit of centre this year then ask someone who buys "big League Magazine" each week like I do and can flick through to see that he has.

DS, I do not dispute Tahu's talent or capacity to play centre.
I do not dispute he is currently a better player than Goldie.

However, lets talk pricing, Tahu is commanding $300,000 per season min
Goldie I am unsure of but I would imagine is 1/3 of that.

At 300K the comparison should be with Vagana, which he would probably stack up well against also, but I have no doubt I would prefer Vagana.

It is all about cost for me. Basically I do not think Tahu is worth 300k as good as he is.

Mr.Angry,

I thoroughly agree.
If Tahu is asking 300k plus forget it.

But Tamazoid made the reference that he was turnstyle which was proven wrong. But I hear Woolies are interested in utilising McGoldrick after looking at those stats........

I didnt rate McGoldrick at the start of the year but I think he's improving as the season goes on. He's done more than enough to prove his worth and I particularly like him in attack. His defence will continue to improve. He's very cheap. I believe in 2002 he was on about 30-40K and I reckon he wouldnt be on too much more than that now.

Ok, if McGoldrick is going to be that dirt cheap, keep him.

But we need other options if he doesn't come off or is injured we've got virtually no one to bring up. What's left is band aid solutions in the centres like Bailey and Gallen. But they can be vunerable in certain situations playing centre.

I would like to think the club have made centre a priority for recruitment this season.

Nobody is disputing Tahus talents.
& ido know he playeda game or 2 of centre. Until hagan saw that he was not very good at centre & put Carmont there.

In regards to the amount of work Goldy does in defense, well why is that?
Does he get targetted? Well you would think that at the start of the year(or his 6 th game in the top grade) any smart coach would target a rookie.
But what about all the cover he does for the teams poor efforts? That, is the real reason.

Also you will find that his defense has improved markedly.
Now down to 1.5 misses per match over the last 5. & that would be even less except for the fact he was thrown to right centre for whatever reao na few weks ago to accomodate Franze.
So one would not have to be too intelligent to see that as Goldy gets his experience level up, things will improve big time. At the nd of the year he will have around 35 games undr his belt. Still a rookie even then.
Tahu has 97 games.

Tahu is definately a better player than McGoldrick. I'd like to have backline with Monaghan, Tahu, and ElMasri but unfortunately the Sharks can't afford it.
McGoldrick tries his guts out for us, but a representative centre/winger he is not and never will be.

I can remember how bad Tahu was in his first 30 games.
Well not bad, just, incapable of doing what he does now.
Tahu is also an extreme case. There is probably no other person as athletic as him in the game.
I find it unfair to be comparing a 100 game veteran, elite class winger to a rookie.

Well there's a flaw in all your plans and visions of splendor - Tahu wants a Centre position.

That's one of the main reasons he wants to test himself on the market. The Centre position is where he feels he's best suited to, and Newcastle have Hughes and Gidley in there.

I don't know If I'd want him here. He seems like a money hungry turd to me. When he was in the paper he said and I quote:

Tahu the turd said:
I want to play in the Centres. That's where the money is at. No-one pays big money for a Winger, but a Centre is different.

I've watched McGoldrick with interest since the great Sludge rated Goldie as something special. I've seen glimpses of a potentially solid player, but nothing special. Tahu, who was also rated as something special, is only four months older than McGoldrick. Tahu made his first grade debut at 18, while Goldie was still in Flegg. Tahu represented Australia the same year that Goldie broke the top grade. Unfair to compre Tahu with a rookie like McGoldrick? Goldie is 23 years old, which is pretty old for a rookie. It's just my opinon, but I don't think Goldie will be more than a solid unspectacular first grader, which is fine by me. We need player who can get the job done, as well as game breakers.

Tahu (Born 16/10/80)

1999 (May 23 1999) 1 try
2000 20 tries
2001 18 tries.
2002 21 tries
2003 14 tries
2004 8 tries

McGoldrick (Born 12/1/81)

2002 3 tries
2003 plays one game for Waratahs then dropped to Easts.
2004 5 tries.

yeah well like I said. I'm not bagging Tahu as I always thought he was an exceptional athlete.
& as we have all found out, so is Goldy.
Just rewind a few years when Tahu started he was playing in a GF winning team.
A very good team!
& he played badly more often then he played well.
I remember 1 year where I dont think he caught a ball.
His first appearances at Toyota were ones to forget too.
If Goldy can get his play up to very high confident standard, I have no doubt he will be good.
But he will never look like Tahu because for one, Goldy can set up his outside man & pass a football to him. Tahu cant do that, & that is why he is a winger.
