I thought Delaney was a winger/centre?

Anyways, strong back row, still would have liked to have seen:

8 – Aaron Cannings
9 – John Morris
10 – Michael Vella
11 – Chris Armit
12 – Nathan Cayless ©
13 – Nathan Hindmarsh

looking more and more like Wagon/Dykes is the preffered halves combo. Don't mind Dykes at half, but like most am resereved about Wags at 5/8th. Will be interesting to see the style of play adopted. Whether Wagon will be a second lock, or whether he will be required to be a creator.

Excellent decision to move Hindmarsh to lock.
For the type of game that he plays and his fitness levels, that is his best position.

It doesn't look like Witt is going to get much game time - if any this Saturday. I don't get it. The game plan for an opposition coach seems very simple - Shut down Dykes and you pretty much shut down our attack.
That forward pack looks very formidable though. It will wear down the opposition very quickly.

It is abit of a worry that Morris and Dykes are the only playmakers in the starting 17. I think that while Parra are trying to be physical and solid, there is still a need for creative players and multiple points/options in attack.

I see a unbalanced side, one leaning to much to be tough instead of being creative. Parra need to find a balance to stand a chance against the comps top sides. Having Witt and Thorman in the 17 is a MUST.

i saw a interesting quote in a article about Wayne Bennett called; Bennett ready to weave his magic again

It's not just being physically aggressive in defence that intimidates sides, but also possessing the ability to punish and embarrass them on the scoreboard

i think Parra could bring in more options in attack, break the oppositions spirt through out classing them on the football field.

During the other trials, was Dykes on for more than 60 mins of the match?

If so, did he handle the ball every play as first receiver when they were not bashing it out one out?

Coz in the 80's Sterlo handled the ball nearly every play. He even went through a match without being tackled. I know Dykes isn't a Sterlo though.

But maybe with Cayless and Hindmarsh out wide providing offloads, BS might want to play the game with lots of second phase play as we did in 2001 where the forwards were always offloading coz they dominated the rucks.

Firstly i think Burt has the ability to be creative, and i also think that Hindmarsh would be considered someone who can create something from nothing as well.

And if the roosters, bulldogs have been the benchmark in recent years, they aren't filled with creative players. At the bulldogs, the extent of their creativity is a cross field kick, and the roosters have a Wing and Fittler, with not much else but people who finish off what they create, or they capitalise on opposition mistakes.

So if that is the recipe, then two creative players is all you need.

Hmm. I don't mind Wags wearing 6, as long as he stays out of the playmaking and basically plays as if he were an extra lock or second rower!

But yeah, it's a lot to hang the organisation of the attack and general kicking onto just Dykes and Morris. If opposition teams can get to them and shut them down, our attack will be very one-dimensional.

Where is Witty?? What did he ever do wrong?

Brett played most his football at lock last season in Jersey flegg, but then played in the centres and five-eight in the latter part of the season in premier league. He's not a flashy player but looks to have a powerful body and saw him on numerous occasion carrying more than 1 defender with him. His also a very classy goal kicker, as you would be under the guidance of JT. Unusual kicking style as he seems to take a short run up to the ball then belts it. very accurate though.

Maybe the thinking with is to have burt play a 5/8th role in attack ala Lockyer the last few years. This gives us an extra defender.
Not sure how it will go because QLD tried in the second Orgin game in 2001. It didn't come close to working but Dykes is more creative than the half QLD had.

Hindy at Lock hmmmmm wonder how that will work, Dunno why BS is persisting with Wags at 5/8 for and Dykes at halfback becuase i thought he was hoping to establish a Dykes/Witt halves combo :?

2 trials 2 wins

sure trials don't mean a lot but if Parra win every game this year (including the GF) I'm sure that people will still be bitching about Wags at 5/8, just for the sake of being annoying.

In the past Wagon hasn't gone very well at 5/8 but Parra's gameplan has also been a lot different.

Don't forget Lyon has been mentioned by Smith as someone who can play 5/8 and was even played against Canberra (in Canberra) in 2001 at 5/8.
