You reckon they are paying Papali'i, after a 2021 season where he was 3rd in the NRL for PCM, 6th for tackle breaks and 17th for offloads, similar money to what we paid Waqa Blake two years earlier despite having achieved f**k all and being unwanted by his existing club?

Do you know how supply and demand works?

Yes.

I need some electrical work = $500
Hi I need some electrical work done fast it urgent and I am desperate I can't find anyone.= $1000

You think we were ever more desperate than the Tigers?!?! We were mid-table when we signed him, and already had bargain hunter Oā€™Neil running recruitment. Thereā€™s no reason we had to pay overs to get Blake.

Waqa Blake would of had the interest of many clubs. You're being silly if think he had zero interest. Same as RCG.
Waqa was like 24 and had so much upside. Just needed to iron out the rubbish. Unfortunately he got worse under our system.

So because he was on overs there we thought we'd rather bring him here and pay overs? But then didn't want to pay overs for Mahoney or Papali'i or Moses? Makes sense
Weve definitely improved that area recently but how long ago was Waqa signed. Probably on 500k same as Kane Evans. šŸ˜

So would Papali'i but apparently we got him cheap:

Blake (mid-2019): 24 years old, 88 games
Papali'i (end-2020): 22 years old, 63 games

Don't be fooled by hype, because clubs aren't. Panthers fans were happy to see the back of Blake and Eels fans were happy to see him because he always played well against us, but clubs aren't swayed by that sort of thing. They look at all the data, including the statistics. There's zero reason there would've been more demand for Blake than Papali'i. If Penrith paid him on potential, the honeymoon was over by the time we took him off their hands. Nobody pays 24 year old outside backs on potential.

Often fooled by Hype.
Rarely fooled by Tripe.

If I were able to speak to Will P, Iā€™d love to give him the challenge of focusing on his dummy half carryā€™s from our back end. Give him a personal challenge to beat the wingers in metres gained and support our forwards.
Top centres do it. He needs to step up.

Will P is not one of our problems IMO. Apart from a couple of brain farts he has been very good. Why should Will be trying to out-do opposition wingers in metres gained? Shouldn't that be our wingers' job/challenge??

Edit - just re-read your post. I hear what you're saying, beat 'our' wingers metres gained...

Fair maybe, but I still think he's doing pretty much what we need him to. Our wingers', whoever they have been, have been very poor this year

Yeah mate Iā€™m not at all bagging him. Quite the opposite! But he is SO strong, Iā€™d love to see him roll his sleeves up with a game plan to go up the middle tackle 2 in plenty of sets. Trust me, it would benefit us big time.

He's made 67 runs in five games, which isn't bad. He's also missed 20 minutes from a sin bin and a HIA, but gained 6 minutes from golden point. There's a few centres who are making more carries though:

MerkinRunsGamesRuns per game
Tass98616.3
Farnworth81516.2
Talakai80516
Holmes92615.3
Ramien76515.2
Alamoti89614.8
Best73514.6
Graham86614.3
Penisini67513.4

To be fair, his last three games have provided 14 (in 70 minutes), 15 and 15 runs, after a fairly quiet first two rounds (23 runs total).

Yesterday was the first I had seen Alamoti play. I was seriously underwhelmed.
