I don't like the US team.
1 big man.
No outside shooting other than Redd.
Too many slashers.
Don't forget, you can play zone zone zone in internationals and there's no defensive three seconds.
Plus international officials don't exactly like the US.
I don't see them winning gold.

i love the way they allow players to get rough in the games, there were a couple of times i was just waiting for them to call a foul and they just let it slide.

I agree that USA are way too small, going with Howard alone as your big is quite dangerous, if he gets fouled out of a game, what do you do next. In regards to shooting, as the 3-point line is smaller, i don't think it will be as big an issue as it could have been if they had of used NBA-3 point lines.

All true but the team with the best guard play usually win these international events. This time the US have got it right and will win the gold quite easily.

Team USA have been looking reasonably good, not sold on them taking the gold for sure. Half-court offense is still an issue and they are very prone to defensive lapses, game against Russia showed a taste of the struggles USA might have in the Olympics, especially in the knock out games

They have really ripped apart Lithuania and Turkey, but I didn't consider them threats anyway. They will not be beaten in the fast break, they are far too strong, fast, athletic etc to be stopped especially D wade Kobe Lebron etc. I see their halfcourt offence improving once they get a bit more time together and CP3 gets a little more comfortable. I think USA gold for sure they are too stacked to be matched and I finally think they will work as a team, especially if they piss of Melo.

Why is it that the USA have only taken one big man?

patty mills absolutely slaughtered the usa pg's, was way way way too quick for them! one play he went coast to coast with deron williams right on him until half court when patty just blitzed him!
Was great to watch, newley also played well, one thing though, David anderson, slow, no foot work, crap hands and the list goes on!
Bogut didnt play and usa only won by 11

Boozer or Bosh could step in to centre couldn't they?

lol so can Lebron apparently, i remember seeing him playing centre a couple of times. The whole idea is to have a flexible squad and not just rely on a set line-up, i mean apart from Howard, anyone in the squad can play a number of positions, which really differs from most teams who pretty much have set line-ups with little variation. I can see the plus side to it, but i don't really understand why you need to have both Boozer and Bosh in the line up, especially as Melo is the starting PF.

 Melo's been arguably USA's most consistent player. He's perfect to play the PF role in international b'ball.

Watched the first half then got too tired. You are right Mills was just on fire! All he needed was a half decent screen and he was in the lane, we could be a chance at a medal once Bogut returns and have a better post threat.

He aint a team player though. I remember 2004 he cost them gold. Last night took too many sh!tty shots, I agree if he plays less selfishly he would be perfect because of his strength inside and his outside jumper.

Normally i would agree that he ain't a team player, but with the players he has around him, he's definitely had to take a back-seat. From what i've seen (i didn't see the Aus game, which explains our difference in opinion), most of his shots are open looks or plays where he's working the low post. I actually can't remember the last time i saw Melo try and create something off the dribble for most of this pre-olympics tour.
