Big opportunity for the boys here. Roosters are in all sorts with injury and our boys should be feeling like they’re on with a real shot. If we go into round 5 with 3 wins from 4 and the away games to Canberra and Easts already under our belts that’s a dream start to the season and a really good setup for a finish at the right end of the eight.

Yip, that win was huge in the context of our season. Next few games are v
Roosters
Manly
Dragons
Storm
Cowboys
Manly

We could easily go 5/6 out of those games. I mean, we have to play well but, I’m sure all Warriors supporters would be happy with a 7/9 start to the season.

let’s not get ahead of ourselves tho, if we play well and go the fundamentals right we’re in with a great start of the season

Meth/Space, can you fix the thread title? This isn't the game-day thread, it's the team thread.

Actually I meant it as the game day thread but whatever works

All good, I'm just one of those stick to the routine types.

So, in regard to the team, I know Chanel's out for 12 weeks or so, but perhaps he comes back into the side in a different position, if possible. He can play centre, I believe. If he was available next week I doubt he'd replace O'Sullivan at 7.

Jazz is a shoo-in next week though. Who doesn't have mixed feelings about that?

I assume it will be the same team with Montoya/Perham replacing Hiku.

Yeah that would seem right......i do wonder if they may put one of those guys on the wing and shift Fus into centre though. Fus seems down on confidence and keeps rushing in without making the stop. It may help him defensively having someone outside him?

I would be so much keener for Perham than Montoya. I don't know why, but I am just not at all enthused about Montoya

This is an important game.

For us to be competitive, one of the things that we need to do more consistently is take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves to us. Canberra are a quality team and we won because we effectively took advantage of the considerable opportunities that presented themselves to us within the game- most significantly, the injuries. I don't know about you- but I had no confidence that we would do that at any stage before they did.

This is a great opportunity for us to beat another top quality side. The Roosters are struggling. They are still a formidable challenge, but they are really vulnerable. Hopefully, Brown's influence will make us more ruthless in converting opportunity to success. If we win this game and then back up against the Sea Eagles, we'll be up around the pointy end of the ladder after 5 rounds and I would not have seen that coming.

well said - there are opportunities and as we still have a lot of improvement in us if we can grab a win here we will be setting ourselves up for a good season

Sully brought our shape back last week.

It is so obvious that a side playing two stand offs is going to lack shape in attack.

Sully also brought the kicking game. Again that is obvious, he is a died in the wool dna Aussie junior, game management is in his blood.

CHT was expected to do those things even though like 99% of Kiwi halves it is foreign to him.

So now we have one 7 and two 6s.

When CHT is fit I am happy for him to continue in the 6 jersey. The Warriors are notorious for wrecking his like by moving them to centre.

Kodi then, goes to the bench as our impact hooker we are needing.

For that to happen, you have to believe that CHT can match Kodi's play at 6.

Well trying that experiment makes a lot more sense to me than trying to turn CHT into an organising half in game....out of the blue....from scratch.

Not one single Kiwi running half in my living memory has learned in a season how to be a play maker.

Kodi comes on with BMM, boom we have another Lance Hohaia, another game winner off the bench.

I have to disagree Sup.
Kodi is one of the better running halves in the comp. I don’t believe CHT (or many others) match Kodi, so I don’t know why we would then muck around with our team.
That means losing a spot on our bench to fit Kodi in, when Egan can play 80.
You don’t move your best player in a position to accomodate someone one with potential.

Sully is 1 game in but I do agree with you, he looked good and already gives our team direction and kicking that we’ve been missing. Let’s see how we get on for the next 7 or 8 games and cross the CHT/O’Sullivan bridge if and when we get there

If Sully can keep performing the answer is straight forward -CHT off the bench as the impact player. Like Benji does for Souths

Kodi made so many breaks in the weekend game - why would you bench him

Thing is there’s time. Kodi is the best option from the bench, but might establish himself at 6, and O’Sullivan at 7 but not have a lot to prove yet and time to do it

wouldn’t mind Turner as impact from the bench, could be electric for short bursts

Could he only runs when he feels like it

But yeah, CHT off the bench is not a bad shout.

thing is I’d probably prefer CHT in the tight early exchanges- he’s an awesome defender and a basically nullifies the “run big blokes at the halves” tactic on one side of the field. Kodi comes into his own when defences tire and things open up and he can shred with his speed.

No worries.
I actually agree with your logic.

Kodi is one of the best running halves in the NRL.

What concerns me most is that the club have said that CHT is the future. So he is a lock in.

I agree he is a very talented player we should develop. So someone has to go...and at the moment it is SOS back to the Dolphins when CHT returns.

Terrible waste.

Our shape will go back to SJ and Loolooeye days.
