Team v Panthers

No point changing the team from yesterday - reward the good performance from that team. No one deserves to be dropped.

Going to be a tough game, but we are capable of rattling some cages if we can win it. Should be intense.

The team has been competitive because of the combinations in defence.

All the flash stuff, the offloads, are nice to haves when compared to the essential defensive improvement in the Warriors.

Things fell over when Cappy changed a winning team, the defensive harmony went out the window (attack suffered but that's not why we lost.....we have been scoring points anyway).

It would make no sense to change a team that found a fundamental NRL level of defending now.

Attacking players like Martel should be measured in terms of whether they can meet the defensive standard before you add them to a Warriors side.

We are not a team that survives first up missed tackles against top eight sides. Martel is a luxury that teams like Manly and Melbourne could afford to compensate for.

You would replace a player who helped us win last week with one who helped us lose the week before?

To be fair, he wasn't alone the week before, had about 14 helpers...

And Gold Coast were reserve grade quality... we have a couple of key players that look very good when the opposition lacks competence

I think Mateo will be included.

For all his flaws he, like Manu, is considered a big match player.

TBH, it would be criminal if Penrith missed the top 4 - that has been thoroughly earned imo.
I agree 100%. The way the Panthers have responded to all the injuries in the last 6 weeks alone is remarkable. I wish our team had that much heart.

Ngani not charged so free to play. Rapira was charged for that 'crusher' though - free to play with early guilty plea. Still... that's disgraceful, Rapira really didn't do anything wrong, I didn't even feel that was a penalty.. let alone worth putting on report.. and then to charge him..

Idiocy.

The crusher thing has gotten absurd. Sure I've seen a few dodgy ones this last month but some completely innocuous ones. We'll be without our best prop against you guys because of it.
Good luck, hope we get the cracker we're all expecting.

Good luck merkins. As UP said if we miss the top 4 & your mob makes the 8 it will at least make the loss pallatable. In saying that I think we will win.

In the case of Rapira's Crusher, you could clearly see that he had time to avoid bringing his weight to bare.

That's why that tackle looks so innocuous. Rapira stops himself from crushing the player.

in a lot of ways the Judiciary should have looked at that and rewarded Rapira for adhering to their codes.

I'm ok with the rulings on crushers. The neck area is not to be rationalised. There has to be a mindset whereby players do everything possible to avoid being in a crusher scenario.....shoot on suspicion.

People will get the message

I will be interested to see if the Warriors use their un rivaled inside knowledge of Ivans 2nd man plays and 50/50 attacking kicks at the end of sets to their advantage.

I'm picking most of your sets will look like this :

Big Winger takes Kick return hit up. Another back scoots out of dummy half and pinches more meters. The Third tackle could be a repeat of those dummy half runs or.....the ball is shifted two passes wide of the ruck for one of your 2nd rowers to pressure the Warriors center / Wing combinations.

Ivan will end sets by Kicking in behind Manu specifically or putting it to the Air at the same player.

A lot of dummy half running....a lot of 2nd man plays.....an attacking kick on the end of it.

Can't wait to see more of that, nostalgia and all.

Could very well turn out to be two Panthers vs Warriors matches in as many weeks!

Predictable. I really feel for Townsend, he was never going to be picked for this one now, but I am adamant should never have been dropped...

Anyways, we have no excuses - of course, Penrith have many many players out

Leuluai doesn't have a kicking game. We're going to miss the extra option Townsend provides which takes the pressure of Johnson. Massive mistake from McFadden in dropping him.

Agree with both of you, I have a feeling we'll sneak into the finals and then Leuluai will be horribly exposed with his lack of attacking options in the finals. He defends well though and if Johnson and Tomkins do most of the playmaking we might get there.

Doesn't justify the dropping of Townsend though
