Wow, prety much just got told Bay.

Not really mate ... watch any game with Logan and Tilse and tell me those stats make sense ... you'll prob find that Tilse takes so long to get going he gets the ball 10 m from the line and then goes down (counts for his 10 m, makes no ground).

Who would you want in your team (disregarding age) ... I'll have Logan up against Julian's Tilse and we'll see who goes down first.

Stats can be used to prove anything mate ... those stats are metres per game, not per hit-up ... it's up to the coach how long he keeps each player on ... how effective are those metres? ... I'd go with Logan/Weyman busting them up the mid rather than Tilse going down like a sack of potatoes on most occassions.

Yeah good point. Personally i think i would go logan and Weyman too, but in saying that I think Tilse has really stood up in the last couple of weeks. Considering this, and the fact Weyman/Costigan are still out, i reckon Tilse deserves his spot this week.

Yeah, yeah I've heard it all before FFS. But you obviously do watch a different game to me.

Our top few forwards in terms of metres gained this year:

http://203.166.101.37/NRL08/index.html

Dane Tilse: 9 games, 823 metres. AvgMetres: 91.4
Josh Miller: 7 games, 675 metres. AvgMetres: 96.4
Troy Thompson: 8 games, 659 metres. AvgMetres: 82.4
Joe Picker: 8 games, 609 metres. AvgMetres: 76.1
Trevor Thurling: 6 games, 472 metres. AvgMetres: 78.7
Scott Logan: 7 games, 459 metres. AvgMetres: 65.6
Nigel Plum: 7 games, 408 metres. AvgMetres: 58.3

So all in all those stats just prove you right I suppose. "If Tilse is our major metre eater than i am watching a different game" well that is pretty obvious. And your other point, "Logan and Weyman would make more metres in one hit up." LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

So what I am trying to say, but proving my point in saying is that your post was an:

You might want to analyse those stats again Julian.

Metres per game v metres per hitup would show that Tilse is our worst performing forward ... and has the worst missed tackle count by a country mile.

But as I said you could prob drag up some stats that indicate he's the shortest guy on the field .. I tend to let my own impression of his overall effectiveness take precedence.

Well the crowds are already gathering in days before kick-off
This Friday Night sparks a clash of the true titans - the 1987 Grand final replay - Raiders v Sea Eagles
This also has ignited another flame - Free to Air Purtell
Adrian Purtell makes his 2nd appearance on Free to Air TV, to which fans of the rugby league community have been dying to see -
PrimeTime Purtell or Free to Air (due to his ability to jump above all) will not fail to please the crowds across the nation watching the Man Mountain. (another name given as his sweat is primarily known as the drink Mountain Due)
Primetime Deon Sanders and Air Jordan have been dominated in market share as Purtell kills 2 birds with just a stare......
They reckon his ability to shine will make every TV in the nation look True HD 1080p......ALL HAIL THE MAN MOUNTAIN
ALL HAIL PRIMETIME PURTELL - FREE TO AIR PURTS
:p

Average Metres per hit-up:

Dane Tilse 7.1
Scott Logan 7.5
Trevor Thurling 7.7
Troy Thompson 7.6
Michael Weyman 8.8
Josh Miller 7.2
Nigel Plum 7.6
Joe Picker 8.1
TLL 7.9
Glen Turner 7.4
Alan Tongue 6
Ben Jones 5.8
Ryan Hinchcliffe 9.6
Lincoln Withers 7.1
Glen Buttriss 8

I find Joe Picker's average to be impressive because he gets through alot of work in both defence and attack.

Thanks Walt for those stats ... I did some quick calcs at lunchtime but didnt have time to post .. must admit I an surprised at Logan's is not higher (maybe they have more defense thrown at him whereas Tilse gets the halfback )

the amazing stat for mine was the missed tackle count frm Tilse which was way above all others

but yea ... EPIC FAIL

You blokes are kidding if you think that average meters is a reliable stat.
Does Tilse ever take the first hit up?

Unless my eyes are deceiving me Tilse hits the line and invariably gets pushed back ... compare this with the likes of Logan and Weyman who would be our biggest impact forwards or the likes of Thurlo and Miller who charge the line and use all their body strength to go the extra metres.

I wish big Tilse all the luck and hopefully if he reads my posts he'll have a blinder and prove me wrong but quite frankly he needs a good stint up north.

Statistics are more meaningful in sports like the NFL where every fine detail is exploited. League is much more simple, catch the ball, hit it up with speed and take the hit like a champ. Stats don't measure the time it takes to get up, or how many times a player is backslammed...

This thread has been brought to you by Break Dance.

From the same producers who brought you Over The Top comes Break Dance!
Can Ozone defy the high society and win over the girl or will he end up like Spit from Beat Street and get electrocuted by a train?

Making their movie debuts are both Ice-T and Van Damn in this cinematic chilling experience.

Break it today.

Those who choose to write off stats as useless are kidding themselves. Coaches use these stats. They wouldn't keep them if they were useless.

Very bad performance by the team tonight.

Tilse and Picker were particulary poor.

If Manly wern't a player down for the majority of the match, the difference could have been 50.

I have to sincerely apologise to Bay. I hated Tilse, then I decided he was important to our team and improving. But after seeing him get dominated yet again, send him to the Sydney Kings, his body shape must be suited to something, because it isn't rugby league.

Man our forward pack stinks. Without Weyman, Costigan and TLL we have NOTHING in attack. I don't care if Weyman put on 20 kilos on his suspension, he should waltz back into first grade and once again prove our best prop. Can't believe we're letting him go yet keeping Tilse and probably Logan. What a joke.

No need to apologise julian ... we all make mistakes ... well not me, but 'we' as in 'others'

As I said I wish Tilsey all the best but quite frankly we've got enough dead meat in our forward pack ... and a slow lumbering forward with the turning circle of the Titanic reflexes of a turtle just does not do it for me atm. Heck my 90 yo grandad gets off his rocker quicker than Tilsey gets of the ground after a tackle.

Weyman will def be a big loss ... I've got no doubt about that ... I dont care how much time he spent on the sideline in the past ... I think he's over his injury problems and the discipline would have come with time.
