I'm just curious as to what is the name of the song that is played at Telstra Stadium before the teams run out at a State of Origin match or Grand Final? I first heard it at the 2001 Grand Final, 2003 S.O.O 2 and 2006 Grand Final, but don't know what it is.

How's it go?

:sarcasm:

It's not that theme song from Top Gun is it?

I remember the theme song Ch9 use to use on the Friday Night game was the "Friday Night's a great night for Football". And they also had another one for Saturday and Sunday arvo games (this is around 1996) that had a fast electric guitar solo in it. I think that song may have been by Billy Idol, i dunno

Nah, I know the song "We will rock you", but that isnt it. The syntax once the guitar solo comes in goes like this (i dunno if you know music theory, but ill say it in terms of crotchets (dah) and quavers (da) and insert the drum beats in the middle of them):

dah dah (drum beat) da da da da da (drum beat)

And you repeat the "da da da da da (drum beat)" part several times, but just you go up in key

SPOT ON! Thank you very much Brycey, for curing me of my headache! Ive been wondering about it since the 2001 Grand Final. Youre a legend!

Now, with the other one i said earlier, back in '96 and probs even further than that, the Friday Night Football song was "Friday Nights a great night for football". On the intro to Sat arvo and Sun coverage of football on Ch9, they had another song with a fast electric guitar solo (no singing at all, just instruments only.), and the guitar solo ended on 3 loud notes/beats (and whilst those loud notes/beats occured, the screen flashed to a large square (nearly the size of the tv screen) with a brown background, and in the square was the two teams that were playing). I dunno what the song is, maybe Billy Idol, im not sure, but for those that remember....

five dock said the same thing well before Brycey did people ;-)

The other song that used to be using, going back even to Aussie Stadium GF's - was, as Dirty Hoe mentioned, "The Olympic Theme" by Star Wars composer John Williams.

The Bulldogs used it for the last few years for their regular season games when the cheerleaders came out to form their usual guard before their howling remix of Who Let The Dogs Out. They've updated the classical piece this year but kept the Dogs Out remix.

So to summarise - it's definitely Come with Me by Puff Daddy (now known as P Diddy).
