Just read this and not sure if it's all a beat up or if there's much to it?

Brisbane Broncos locked in a battle to retain Ben Te'o with Rabbitohs and Bulldogs showing interest.

THE Broncos are fighting grimly to hold on to Ben Te'o, with South Sydney and the Bulldogs emerging as major threats in the race to sign the hard-hitting utility.

Brisbane operations chief Andrew Gee said last night the club was desperate to retain the off-contract Te'o, but conceded the Broncos could be trumped by more lucrative offers from potential suitors due to salary-cap constraints.

Speculation sweeping league circles suggests the Rabbitohs are front-runners, with the Redfern outfit viewing Maroons Origin hopeful Te'o as a readymade replacement for Test forward Dave Taylor, who has verbally agreed to a four-year deal with the Titans.

Yesterday morning, a pragmatic Broncos coach Anthony Griffin said while he hoped to re-sign Teo, he was not confident.

"I'm not confident with any of them. It's life - it's the salary cap," Griffin said.

No one could blame Te'o for walking into a better contract and a starting spot which he would be entitled to at most teams. Brisbane probably has the best backrow rotation in the comp and something has to give.

It also points to the fantastic system Brisbane has. Te'o was nothing and barely first grade standard when he lobbed at Red Hill. Now he's a true impact weapon. I hope we do keep him but he deserves to get every cent he can.

Seems strange to me that the Dogs would want him though seeing as their pack is pretty good as it is. A team like Penriff could really do with a player like Te'o.

Looks like he is already gone

Te'o completes Souths NRL switch

Wednesday, May 02, 2012 - 3:14 PM

South Sydney have moved to replace the departing Dave Taylor by securing the services of hard-hitting Brisbane back-rower Ben Te'o on a three-year deal from the start of next NRL season.

Taylor agreed terms last month to join Gold Coast after his family failed to settle in NSW, and the Rabbitohs moved for the former Wests Tiger, who was 18th man for Queensland in last year's State of Origin series.

"I've met with Ben and he's a highly motivated young man who wants to achieve great heights in rugby league," said Souths coach Michael Maguire.

"He's prepared to work hard to achieve his and the team's goals, in terms of premiership success and playing representative football.

"It's this drive and work ethic that led us to approaching him about joining the Rabbitohs for the next three years and beyond.

"He'll add experience and power to our pack in attack and defence and we're looking forward to welcoming him next year."

Broncos will more than likely do some shifting around next season I would think with this decision. Reed to the backrow, Gagai in from NYC, then either Gagai or Yow Yeh to the centres with the other covering Beale's wing. Copley will more than likely retain his spot.

Or, they will give Gillett more minutes and just bring in someone like Mitchell Frei to cover Te'o's bench spot, Yow Yeh back to his wing, Gagai in for Beale, and Copley back to NYC.

It'll certainly be interesting.

Good luck to Ben. I hope he does well.

Why move Reed into the backrow when there are young players like Gillett, Lui and Frei who are specialist back rowers who could cover the backrow option on the bench. Just seems like a complete waste of Reed's talents to me. I know people have said that one day he would make a good back rower, but why not let one of the other young guys take Teo's spot.

Yeah -I kind of guessed this could happen when they mentioned it originally in the Beale signing.

I think it's a bit of a blow. But look at the way the broncos have been nurturing these young stars. Im excited to see who the next big up-and-comer will be. Don't want to get too bummed out about Teo, he is an amazingly solid player and can play a range of positions! -Hope he can do good things at Redfern.

For those of you grieving: Look up! we haven't had him play the last few games and still won! + We were all accepting the end of Lockyer this time last year!! -could be worse.

Also good luck to Ben. Wish you all the Best at the Bunnies, you will become one of their best players very quickly. Unfortunate to see you go, but that is the point of the salary cap.

Yeah sad to see him go, but something had to give. No big changes required. Reedy stays we're he is and Gillett fights it out with Glenn for the starting 2nd row spot. Gillett can also cover in the centres if there is a injury.

I know the money is good, but f**k me... Te'o just murdered his career, and it mystifies me why players would do that.

Money Money Money...thats why. When his career ends it is high doubtful he will be making 200k a year (or whatever) so he needs to make as much as he can and set himself up post football.

I dont blame anyone leaving for another club.....cause once you are retired the club is not going to bend over backwards for you unless you are a Lockyer or Langer....and Teo aint in that class.

You guys bagging my comment about Reed, you did see the second option, right?

Reed to the second row is stupid I think too.

I don't see Gillett pushing Glenn out of the starting side either. When you have Thaiday (captain), and Parker (work horse) there, it makes it really hard to fill either of those spots, and I just think Glenn is far too classy to replace. I certainly think Gillett should get more minutes - maybe push Thaiday into the front row at times and have Glenn and Gillett on.

Wow! That was news to me. I would've guessed Souths though (prior to it being confirmed) as Taylor is gone. I also would've guessed Souths because the Bulldogs have never even mentioned him before. We're not after a lock, as we've got plenty, we're after a winger.

You can have Copley.
