He is still unsigned for next season, should we be considering him for a spot in the halves?

PASS...BIG BIG BIG PASS.

But we'd be dumb enough to sign him for $250k.

He aint even a five-eight.

If we were to get someone it should have been Chris Bailey or someone like Luke Walsh, Ben Roberts...but noone out there that I like in the halves.

Promote from within.

I think he may have already re-signed with the Raiders - that's what I thought I heard listening to a bit of the Raiders v Broncos on the ABC.

Just goes to show how wrong people can be.

Well it's just like you were saying on the other thread, I think we overvalue our young talent, people talking about how we shouldn't worry if peanuts leaves coz we have Penese and Paulo, well I will worry coz Franky is a developed FG gamebreaker while the others have potential but can just as easily flop.

Just because he has one good game after we were sh*t doesn't make him a world beater.

Yeah he's had a decent season, but I still say he's average.

I wouldn't want him for $250k or $300k.

if he came on $200k a season i'd be rapped, but to be honest...I don't think we need him.

People are extremely quick to criticise these young talents...because simply they are ignorant morons.

Some of crap i've read on PI regarding Iosefa, Graham etc...was just dribble.

Fact of the matter is this:

1) Priddis gave away 3 DUMB penalties...all of which led to tries in the first 25-30 minutes
2) Priddis, Smith and Blair were awful in defense. Blair rushed out of the line 3 times, twice resulted in tries to the opposition, Priddis was carried over the line, and Smith missed 2 tackles close to the line and was taken over once with ineffective tackling
3) Wesser...may have scored 1 try out of individual brilliance, but let in 3 himself as well as gifting one to the opposition when we were in front.

Fact of the matter is...Frank Pritchard went missing...the ENTIRE game. He was barely sighted and just may as well have not been playing.

The FACT of the matter is, the senior players didn't step up...if it wasn't for Iosefa, Graham, Jennings and Gordon, the result would have much worse.

The FACT is, Elliot is dumb enough to put Graham at centre outside jennings when they SHOULD have been switched. Graham is too young to be able to make complex decisions in defense. Put him in the middle where he isn't exposed...sticking players out on the wing, just exposes them more into making poor decisions. I've said this for AGES about poor defenders...defending them in the middle making one on one tackles helps their defense...but once again noone listens.

The FACT of the matter is, once again we played up the middle of the ruck in a slow and boring style...when we have great weapons out wide.

The FACT of the matter is, we were just sh*tE! in every aspect of the game...we gave away dumb penalties, failed to control possession, and were stifled in attack with a lack of creativity.

We are a great team that is being mentored by a terrible coach.

Yesterday, the senior players didn't step up.

Yesterday proved that these players do NOT want to play for Elliot, and do NOT want to play finals football...the distinct lack of committment was evident.

Terry Campese...wouldn't have made a difference, nor will he. He may be in good form in Canberra and against poor teams, but against good sides, he is a defensive liability, his kicks ineffective and goes missing. Not worth 300k and i'm definately NOT wrong about that. People need to stop bringing up redundant threads when a player has ONE good game.

As for Pritchard...Paulo and Penese will replace him. Pritchard has had 5 good games...and is inconsistent and always will be. He will be a loss...of course...but when he is off...he is dreadful...that is a FACT

I agree with various aspects of your post however I think you need to learn a bit of humility.

Campese is much better than anyone playing in our halves at the moment.

I never bagged on our young guys, I just call it how I see it, Iosefa has been one of our best but he (along with everyone) was poor yesterday, Graham's passing game is developing nicely but he is a liability in defense and you are probably right this is exacerbated by him defending on the wing.

Peanuts was invisible but he is probably still injured, I still think you overvalue our young guys if you think he will be easily replaced.

I agree that our coach sucks and no-one played for him, but I still think people overvalue our youth, Campese would have been a solid addition to our club

We aren't all ignorant morons, hell in your post you said you would prefer we went after Ben Roberts, surely that was an error in judgement...

We all have opinions and that's why we are on these forums...

Campo is the best defender at our club  If you think he's had one good game, I suggest you watch the game vs the Titans a few weeks back. Credit where its due, he is a good player who has the midas touch ATM.

Good luck in the coming weeks!

mate that comment wasn't directed at you...or anyone else here...rather the people at PI that want to hang these young kids out to dry.

I'll admit Ben Roberts was an error in judgement.

Its not a matter of humility, its a matter of stepping back and taking stock of what has just happened and not react by signing the other teams five-eight who played an extraordinary game against mediocre opposition.

He may be good now, but he has been ordinary the other years he has been in first grade.

Wade Graham is 17...give the kid time...anyone who expects him to deliver a premiership straight away...is a nutter. Give the kid 2-3 years to develop his instincts...then you'll see him shine.

My belief is our younger stars are not playing to their potential because of the current coach. They go out and do what they are told to do.

I agree, the thing I really like about him is his attitude, you can see that he is trying 100% and that he cares...

I gave him credit, stated he has had a very good season...perhaps you should re-read the post.

However, prior to this season, every Canberra supporter wanted him gone...he had played for 3-4 seasons and noone cared or wanted him in grade...now all of a sudden he is a messiah.

He's in great form at the moment...most definately...but earlier in the year everyone at Canberra was calling for him to be dropped and a Carney/Dobson combination....how quickly peoples heads turn when a team starts winning.

Even here...but MOSTLY on PI...and I say mostly because I think only one person on here had a dig...and noone that has posted here in this thread...said how great it was for the kids to play...and how enthusiastic we looked etc etc...then yesterday I read dribble from the same person saying "all these kids are crap...all out of their depth...I never supported them coming into first grade,...what did people expect".

If you are going to play these kids, you have to take the good with the bad...the reason we lost yesterday was a lack of committment from the team as a whole...a lack of discipline from the senior players...and this comes down to two sets of people:
1) The leaders at the club
2) The coach for not properly motivating his players.

Coaching isn't just developing skill...thats what an assistant coach is for...coaching is all about man management and that unforunately is something that Matthew Elliot is extremely poor at. If he can't mentally get players up for a game like that...where our season is on the line...then that says a number of things to any supporter:
1) The Players do not respect him or his staff
2) The players just in general do not care about their own performance
3) The players do not care about their team, their colours or their fans
4) The coach himself has given up.

It is time that we stop delluding ourselves. This team will NOT move forward until we have a coach that:
A) Can reach out to the Islander players and get them ready physically and mentally for a game
B) Can develop the talent we have from good players, to great players...not just average players to good players.
C) Can outthink and out-coach other coaches and create gameplans around our strengths and target their weaknesses.

Until that happens, we will always be underachievers, and I don't care what anyone says...we have underachieved this year massively.

Exactly!...he's a leader, that is the most important thing.

He is not over-awed...he is not scared of anyone.

He tells men what to do...that is what I like.

In time he will be the captain of this team and he will be the player we look to for inspiration. He will be our champion player along with Coote and Iosefa and Jennings.

Absolutely absurd comments about Campese being a liability defensively. He's the best defensive 5/8th in the comp, Mick you are way off the mark suggesting he's anything but a strong defender
