Terry Campese

Absolutely absurd comments about Campese being a liability defensively. He's the best defensive 5/8th in the comp, Mick you are way off the mark suggesting he's anything but a strong defender

2 years ago...last year...Canberra fans were suggesting that Campese was a liability...granted...that was when he was playing out of position at centre.

I am of the opinion his best position could in fact be lock...Feleti Mateo style.

I like Campese, he's having a great year and has had great impact for Canberra this season...however, any Canberra fan who says they wanted him in First Grade for the last 4-5 years based on his performances prior to this year...is way off the mark and a deadset Liar. I read Canberra forums because I like the Raiders...some of the crap I read in these regarding players is just amazing...When I did my Season preview I had Campese at lock, so obviously I knew he would start...but I was castrated by many Raider fans via e-mail for including him.

Funny that...

Graham looked deadset devestated in the dressing room after he left the field injured yesterday and it most definetely wasn't just the fact he was injured.

Which is more than I can say for some of the players who just looked plain perplexed.

I thought Graham played well on the weekend.
He put alot of great hits on and threw some great passes.

FTR mick i too think Campo's future will eventually take him to lock forward, have said for some time but 2-3 years ago he just wasnt playing to his ability, but even then he was an incredibly good defender, even when played out of position at centre, he is a good reader of play and has pace and strenght to shut play down, anyone suggesting he is a liability in defence or has been at any stage of his NRL career, IMO simply doesnt know what they are talking about.

Then 80% of Raider fans are dumb then Raider...i'll take your word for it, but in some games i've seen of him other than this year, his positioning is sometimes extremely poor....although that may have been the result of poor defenders either side of him.

He does however hit hard.

Well it's just like you were saying on the other thread, I think we overvalue our young talent, people talking about how we shouldn't worry if peanuts leaves coz we have Penese and Paulo, well I will worry coz Franky is a developed FG gamebreaker while the others have potential but can just as easily flop.

I do hate it when players like this leave and people say, no matter who it is, "who needs him, young players who actually want the spot will take his place". With that attitude eventually all the top players will be gone, because when you think about it SBW and carney are both still young 23 and 22 I think. Do people think its ok for the game to lose players at this age because 19-20 year olds will take their place, who will then leave in two years to be replaced again? I would rather keep these finished products then gamble on unknowns (keeping in mind I hope SBW breaks his leg at union, I'm talking in general)

Yeah but then again...you could also have a flip side in an unhappy player...underperforming and in turn hurting the club...

I just thank God for the dyslexia. Getting beaten by 47 to 21 isn't really all that bad.

Sure, but again using SBW he was on fire and lifting the whole dogs team on his shoulders. Again, not the best example because he needed to go for sure as his head was in the clouds in Toulon, but you know what I mean. I feel the dogs will be going through some massive short-term suffering before the long-term benefit is felt having the cancer removed from their club.

A couple of things

.Campo wasnt re-signed as he/his manager rejected an initial offer
.Barrett came on the market and we chased him.
.We missed out on him and Campos manager virtually pleaded with the Raiders to sign him.

Campo has no missed tackles this year.

Whenever there is a hint of trouble on the field he is first there.

Pride in his green jersey.

Even before last week I would of liked to have seen him in our team. He's a good player. Great defender, good kicking game and good organised. Having him at five-eight and Graham at half would of been very nice.

Since Carney has been banned Campese has been on fire. His game hasn't just gone up a notch. It's gone up several. He's looked killer running the ball and his passing game has been near perfect. Aside the Broncos game he's been the form player in the comp the last month or so.

Terry Campese...wouldn't have made a difference, nor will he. He may be in good form in Canberra and against poor teams, but against good sides, he is a defensive liability, his kicks ineffective and goes missing.

Comment of the season.

Jeez I love you guys, but if you're going to comment about our players at least spend the time watching them play.

Defensive liability indeed.

against bad teams, awesome.

Against good teams...goes missing.

I wish him the best...improving all the time...but I still maintain that 90% of you gumbies from the Nationals Capital wanted him gone in the early season...and 2-3 seasons prior...now you all make out as though you all wanted him all along.

Its quite funny actually.

I think Campese is average.
He is no better than the any other five eighths/ halfbacks in the game.
I think he is overrated after their win over us.

He is in great form. Some peoples definitely overrate him. But in his current form, there's not a team in the NRL that wouldn't have room for him. Personally i'd be playing him at lock though.
