Champion player, better bloke.

That is his biggest honour. He will forever be remembered for his playing ability, but his best asset was his personality and attitude.

Proved all the doubters wrong, and did it with a smile on his face.

Easily the greatest human to pull on the Red & Blue. When you watched Bedsy you knew you had a bloke who would give anything for your footy side. Absolute pleasure to watch him play, and I truly hope that the club can put his passion to use in an off field role. Fan liason perhaps? Imagine having Bedsy running around Newy just turning up at places with membership forms and a few hard words about why you're a Knights fan but not a member. Or you turn up to the game and he's sitting on the hill leading the chant. They're just juvenile fantasies of an obsessive fan, but Danny is the personification of Newcastle, and we cannot afford to lose him to the club.

I thought it was pretty ordinary the way JWH and Shane Hayne acted so nonchalantly at the injury of a great player like Bedsy. They'd rather have a joke about JWH getting to play the ball than show concern for a retiring legend leaving the field on a stretcher...

Jobber, how about a thank you bedsy banner for us?
Can't claim credit for this one, you'll have to thank Timmah for it instead :p

The greatest Knight, would have done anything for the club and town.

I was gutted when I saw him stretchered off, I couldnt believe that the football gods could be so cruel to a guy who deserved a winner laps on grand final day.

He deserved better and I hope that he enjoys long and successful career beyond footy.

Worse was the group of Roosters fans sitting near us clapping and cheering when we went down. They started some chant pointing and laughing at him too. F***ing dog behaviour.

My favorite Knight of all time. Was a legend on the foeld and an absolute gentleman of it. The club is fortunate to have such an inspirational human being representing them.

Good luck in retirement, beds. Don't go too far.

Great player and an even better bloke, thanks for the great memories Danny and I hope you stay around the Knights as even your presence is monumental!

Yep I noticed that, I thought the ref having a joke was in really poor taste.

The top 3 knights players of all time imo would read

1. Johns
2. Buderus
3. Harragon

Buderus made his debut way back in 1997 and he would have to be the toughest player, or close to the toughest player I have ever seen. In a finals game in 1998 he had an injured shoulder so he was playing with pain killers. Throughout the game he kept popping his shoulder out, so he kept putting it back in himself and then he'd make the next tackle. He's one on one tackles against prop forwards was something I haven't seen a hooker do with as much courage before. However what Buderus demonstrated in defense didn't overshadow his attacking game. Over 15 years, I can't remember a single time where he didn't find the mark with a pass from dummy half. He was super consistent and turned up ready for a contest every week. From memory he also holds the record for the most tries from a dummy half with over 50.

It's going to be a big loss not having Buderus there next year, but I feel incredibly lucky that I was able to watch him play for the knights over such an extended period of time. Hopefully the knights will use him in some form of coaching position in the near future.

To be honest I'd be ecstatic if Bedsy was our first grade coach say 5-10 years from now. I reckon he's got the intelligence and charisma to make a real fist of NRL coaching. He would be well positioned to gain valuable experience as an understudy to Bennett and Stone.

He can start as our hooker mentor and work his way up from there. Help out Clydesdale and Adams with their development (no Waddell).

Specialist defencive/hooker coach would be where he would start imo. Its what the Brumbies were chasing him for a few years back

The man galvanized the team together and the fact Wayne said the boys were more shattered Bedsy was injured ahead of the prelim loss tells you everything you need to know about Danny Buderus. As much as they shouldn't let it be the only motivation I get the feeling the lads wanted to do it for Danny above all else and when he was injured the dream went with it.

We've got plenty of old timers to send off over the next few years. None of them are Danny Buderus, unfortunately, but we shouldn't struggle to find motivation. lol.
