  Get off the crack man, that stuff will kill you. Even though the score was close, tonights game was still pretty ordinary. The first 10 minutes of this years NRL Grand Final shits all over the 100 minutes of field goal attempts, penalty attempts and drop ball in tonights game. I hope for your sake you were miraculously cured of blindness this morning because if that was the best game of sport you have ever seen then you have some serious problems.

You Bloody beauty, a game decided by penalties & drop goals, soo1 & NRL had 5 times the skill then that pathetic excuse for a spectacle.
Jolly good penalty Elton, that Jonny Wilkinson sure can kick can't he Godfrey old boy?

east, ill give you an honest opinion, the ireland/oz, wales/england, and nz/tonga games were good

But tonights game sucked the big one. It was slow, error ridden and hardly one break of the defence line

It went to extra time. So what. Doesn't make a game good

Once you watch the game without the wankathon commentary im sure you will agree.

Ah, i can hear the wheels falling off the bandwagon from here

Cheers,
Moffo

Nice troll, eastsrule. I know the ARU would agree with you.

I couldn't believe the hype coming out of the commentator's mouths after the game... jeeze it was a disappointment. The Wallabies were poor -- sluggish, uninventive -- and England were their own worst enemy, with their silly mistakes and penalties, they kept Australia in the game.

The whole game felt like the same five minutes played over and over and over again -- I thought it was Groundhog Day! So monotonous, and they were all just waiting for the other team to make a mistake so they could kick a penalty, instead of, oh I don't know, doing something exciting yourselves?

If you didn't watch the game and just heard the result, you would think it was an exciting match. Or if you watched the game while drunking and had a bunch of people around you to take your mind off it, then yeah you would probably remember it differently. But really... I literally groaned when it went into over-time! Being the good Aussie I stuck with it (even though my missus was going for the Poms). Oh well.

In all honesty, I don't have a problem with Union on its own, and especially not the Wallabies, and that game would have been a 5 or 6 out of 10 on the excitement-o-metre, but when the ARU spout their bullshit hype it really gets my goat.

Re: SOO1 & GF -- they were exciting from the very beginning, and never let up -- 80 minutes of pure intensity. The WC only got interesting when you realized how close it was on the scoreboard. Otherwise, it was pretty bland.

England played well for the second 20 min of the first half, apart from that it was pretty ordinary stuff.

The game was memorable but nowhere near as great a game as the NRL GF, the match stalled too many times and there wasn't much of a running game, especially in the second half. From a Rugby Union perspective it's still a massive result because a Northern Hemisphere team has finally won the Cup and so the tournament's credibility has been vindicated.

got one thing to say to people who keep bagging rugby, if you don't like rugby, don't watch it. I thought it was an enduring contest, great defence, which is sadly something you don't see much in league. The play skills were abit lacking but you must consider the conditions, I mean the turf was very slippery, the ball was like a bar of soap, and I'd say there'd be just as many errors in a league match in those sorts of conditions.

Eh!??! :?: :?:
Are u a Souths fan then?!?

Cos THAT'S the only reason I can think of, u haven't seen EVERY BIT AS GOOD defence from teams for extended periods of time in a match!!...Just because more tries are scored in a League game - because people are TRYING to score tries - has nothing whasoever to do with the relative quality of the defence!!!

Agreed 100%

Yeah but in League at least they'll STILL HAVE A GO in those conditions!!!! Not just shut up shop COMPLETELY & just take pot-shots at each others' goals from 45-50 metres out for 40 full minutes!!

Nice try though!!!

LOL! Looks like the hype machine won over a couple of impressionable minds.

Hope you watched the Test match this morning! That's three straight tests decided in the last 5 minutes.

Poor union.... once again. If only league had the money backers to hype the better game.

Hahahahah!

The arrogant Wallabies lost! Wooo hoo! What a glorious day for rugby league! The rival code lost it when it counted, and the media drum-up was all for nothing. Well done England!! :D:D:D

Go the Kangaroos! Only league can bring home the bacon ;)

and the 2 players who can only get a try

league players of course :)

how true
tries are such a rarity in union

what sort of sport can rack up points in a game entirely by one person
it was australia vs. jonny wilkinson whereas in league players actually need skill instead of being able to kick the ball into touch

I predicted getting a flame posting this topic. I should take back some of it, the NRL Final was probably a bit better, because of the way Penrith played.

The way I felt for the game could have been intimidated by teh atmosphere I was in, around 5 000 people at Woolahra Oval. With about 3 000 of them drunk.

But I just thought I would do you blokes a favour and point this out. I think a majority of the insults directed towards the better code (Union) have been that it is low scoring and a lack of tries being scored.

Thanks to Microsoft Excel, I calculated the Points For for the top 12 NRL teams and divided it so it by 2.18 (Which is the 24 NRL Round divided by the 11 Super 12 Rounds). So for 11 games the top 12 NRL teams scored 3266.6 points.

Super 12 with all of the teams Points For added up is equal to 3686 points, which means in Super 12 more points are scored. Now you can turn around and say a majority were penalties or dropped goals, but there was arouind 5 dropped goals scored (Similar to the NRL). I cannot say much about penalties though there was 204 from the top 10 kickers which equals 1791 points which is less than half of the points scored. The top 10 try scorers scored 74 tries. 74 tries into 10 people is 7.4. 7.4 tries in 11 games ain't too bad.

I know NRL was better than Super 12, but I find the amount of critism union gets is bloody amazing. I never heard this critism when the World Cup wasn't on. ANd I agree the WC has been over hyped, but if you don't enjoy it don't watch it.

The game was exciting engouh for you people who don't like union to watch 100 minutes of. It was an enjoyable match, you could not ask for a better final with the Wallabies the lucky ones who just got through their stages and then the English who had been quiet until then.
