the 11 for south africa

just what i believe should be the 11 for the south africa test series

understand this will never happen with the muppets that currently occupy the selection board

1. kattich
2. hughes
3. ponting
4. hussey
5. clarke
6. haddin
7. johnson
8. bracken
9. siddle
10. hilfy
11. mcgain

justification starting form the top

- cant ignore hughes form. blood him on this tour. guys like him are the future. lets not wait till his 30 ish. jaques could be considered unlucky and could come back in for him for the ashes as this would give him a chance to recover from his injury properly in shield cricket.

- lets piss off the all rounder jack of all master of none number six. johnson ( as much as he sh*ts me ) can fill the spot from 7 with haddin slotting into 6, as it sems to me that we can manage to eek out enough runs with an underperfoming number six to win a test but cant for the life of us take twenty wickets.

- bollinger unlucky to miss out but i think the balance is better with 2 lefties and two righties

- if we cant take 20 wickets with 4 varying seamers and a quality spinner( i.e. not haury) ill s**t in my hat.

- assumes that S. Clark is injured and Lee is sent to india to do bollywood movies permanently (unless he can take some wickets in shield matches and get some form on the board).

thoughts?

i would challenge anyone to justify that our current selection of bowling 'specials' lee, johoson, siddle and crazy (or haury) could do better then what is posted here

I like it but I wouldn't have 5 bowlers

I'd have some one like North at 6 and leave out Siddle or Hilfy

I think Siddle may be injured anyway

wow, now this will be interesting..

If I was the aussie selectors, I would be giving some of the older players a rest and blooding a couple of new boys.

ponting and hussey to stay home.

Even with a team half stacked with bowlers the attack is still toothless

youve got johnson and siddle in your 11 :sarcasm:

youve only omitted Lee and Hauritz/Crazy, and added an extra bowler

Dont have to be sherlock to see that the attack would be better,

I personally wouldn't pick McGain. I just can't see the justification for a 38 year old debutant with relatively little experience...I'd rather take Krezja and play 4 quicks until we get on a wicket that will turn. Best option IMO;

Katich
Hughes
Ponting
Clarke (been in better form than Hussey, deserves a shot at 4 IMO)
Marsh (if fit)/North/Birt (any of them will do, a good middle order bat)
Hussey (I know 6 seems low, but IMO we need a bloke who scores runs down the order, Hussey can be that man)
Haddin
Johnson
Bracken
Hilfenhaus
Siddle

12-Krezja

WTF has Krejza done at FC level..was it his 1/160 odd on the weekend? Meanwhile Hauritz got 6 wickets. McGain will tour but Hauritz will be the backup. Lol at Bracken inside an XI ahead of better options like McGain for one

I like the idea of

Hughes
Jaques/Rogers
Ponting
Katich
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Johnson
Siddle
Bollinger/Hilfy
Mcgain

Mcgain is a decent leggie, much better than any other option we have as a spinner, and can buy us a year and a half or 2 to develop a spinner to replace him.

Alternitively move hussey back to 4, katich back to opener for Jaques/rogers and slot North in at 6

Just no Mcdonald/other sh*t all rounder.

Hauritz has been tried and failed. Krejza can at least get wickets on a turning track, Hauritz did nothing on a 5th day SCG pitch that was collapsing ffs. Never again. McGain is far too old, a f**king 38 year old debutant? No thanks.

And  at you....Bracken is too old, but you want McGain....do us all a favour and jump off a bridge

McGain is our best spinner plain an simple. He will get us to the Ashes, lets re-assess the spin options after that. Whether that be Dan Cullen, Aaron Heal, Cullen Bailey (who will get more opportunities now he has moved to QLD), etc. Fact is McGain is our best spinner and I hate going into a test without a specialist spinner and considering Ponting is a genius and does not bowl Katich..we need a full time spinner. Krejza could not get wickets in Newcastle..meanwhile Hauritz got 6!

if we dont take McGain then we may as well just take a heap of quicks

Horror and Crazy are not international standard players imo
