I dont think James Holland has played first team football for two seasons?

B-Dos - Moore was always a certainty. Guaranteed he will start against Germany

it was probably wishful thinking fishy howeever i had hoped we would move on and leave behind the old stalwart and select a centre back with a little more speed and skill and a little less fouls..

Holland was a bit out of left field.

Good to see Nikita selected though. Will be very useful against tiring defences and Per Mertesacker in general.

My final squad of 23 based on the 30 named:

Goalkeepers:
Mark Schwarzer, Brad Jones, Adam Federici
Defenders:
David Carney, Lucas Neill, Luke Wilkshire, Rhys Williams, Scott Chipperfield, Brett Emerton, Michael Beachamp, Mark Milligan
Midfielders:
Marco Bresciano, Tim Cahill, Jason Culina, Vincenzo Grella, Mile Jedinak, Dario Vidosic, Nick Carle
Forwards:
Joshua Kennedy, Harry Kewell, Scott McDonald, Nikita Rukavytsya

Maybe swap Jedinak for Valeri. I'll always have a place for Tommy Roar in my heart, but I just can't see who is worth excluding for him. Vidosic must go as far as I'm concerned because I believe he is one of the key players for the post-world cup generation (Oar may well be in a few years time too, but he's still a bit too young to pin all our hopes on), and I've included Carle because I just think our midfield is too on the defensive side and we need to have more attacking options.

I wouldn't take Moore because he's hardly had any decent game time for almost half a year now.

you'd take 4 strikers weasel?

I guess we'd need a fourth with the cloud over kewell, otherwise I'd dump McDonald and there is your Tommy Oar spot.

you would have to get rid of the ones i bolded, seriously, f**k craig moore off, the guy is useless, not even playing state league because his greek club wont release him properly..

holman will make it even though i dont want him to, he is useless, wow he can run all day, but he has the first touch of a rapist..

galekovic, i feel sorry for him because he has been playing very very well, but i would take federici and jones just because they are playing first team football in the championship and lets face it, players in there are a lot better than the a-league.

id keep lowry in there just because he has been playing regular football with leeds, suprised kilkenny didnt get a look tbh.

garcia is probably one of the worst players, so what he plays for hull, he wont be next season, and im pretty sure he was voted in the worst XI ever for west ham.

valeri will probably make it as understudy to grella because there are question marks over his fitness, not a massive fan of him, but he gets the job done.

holland? f**k that, the guy hasnt played since he left the a-league. has he?

beauchamp is like holman, just in defense, useless, and if youre taking him for backup to the backups, you might as well take lowry in his place, chances are he wont get game time and taking lowry would be having one eye on the future.

same thing with tommy oar, chances are he wont get any game time, will just be taken with an eye to the future, or if the game is lost throw him on for a bit to get a run.

im a massive fan of carle, but i think he will get cut in place of holland or oar, but im pretty sure half of the country will linch verbeek if he doesnt take him.

anyway, thats my 2c, im sure half of your disagree and thats the beauty of football, would be interested to see everyone elses opinion! :)

surely we must have a better defender then Mark Milligan. Our defenders in the A-League must be worse than a player in the Japanese 2nd division

Yeah, I mostly agree with your thoughts Satsok. Garcia is definitely a plodder, the only reason he's considered is because he was playing in the EPL, but let's face it, he was a peripheral player for probably the worst team to ever get promoted to the Premier League. One player I would consider in his stead his Nathan Burns.

About Galekovic, apparently he's been chosen as a stand-by goalkeeper. So if any of the other three are injured he will be in the squad, otherwise not.

How do you solve a problem like McDonald? Well Fishy, certainly the guy has never done anything in the Socceroos jersey to warrant a show of loyalty, but he's the most successful goal-scorer we've got at club level. But I don't want to exclude Rukavytsya either, similar reasons to Vidosic, and also because he's got a buttload of talent. Plus, he's made a huge impact on Roeselare in his short time there.

Tommy Oar is a massive X-Factor for our team imo, like what Michael Owen was to the English in 98. We have to take him

While the J2 wouldn't be quite so strong all the way down the table the teams at the top would certainly be more than competitive, remember Joel Griffiths played for a J2 club coming off his player of the year season in the A-League when Newcastle were Champions and didn't really standout a lot. Millligan plays for a team that has a pretty long tradition in Japan (this is their first season outside of the top flight of Japanese football since their inception in the 1940's) that probably has more money to spend than any A-League club.

Solid squad... Hopefully Oar gets picked for the squad off 23.. Him and Nikita are something the team really lacks, which is speed! Could be a massive bonus when we play two biggish teams in Germany and Serbia!

No real suprises though in that squad.. fingers crossed Holman doesnt make it any further! Cant see that happening though

speed is such a great assest.

One of the most valuable players Germany had in 06 was David Odonker.

A rubbish player, surprise selection by Klinsman. All he had was pace.

eg second group game v Poland, 0-0, Odonker comes on and uses his pace down the wing, gets behind the defence, puts in a half decent cross Neuville scores and Germany win 1-0.

Odonker got signed on the back of that by a Spanish team and hasnt been sighted since.

Is Oar even that good? Good enough for the World Cup? I'll admit, I've only seen him play about twice and once was against Indonesia - not exactly a quality outfit.

Everyone keeps saying how good he is, Fox Sports especially, yet the only highlight they ever show of him is him beating one Indonesian player then putting in a misplaced cross.

Joe Cole is likely to be left out of the England squad..... let's make him an Australian citizen before June 1, we need him!

He is only 18. A heap of potential.

North, Garcia, Beauchamp, and Holland are damn lucky to be there.

I'd have much preferred to see Spiranovic, Ogenovski, Griffiths, and Colosimo make the cut ahead of the four of them.

As for my final 23:

Goalkeepers:
Schwarzer, Federici, Galekovic

Defenders:
Chipperfield, Carney, Lowry, Milligan, Neill, Wilshire, Williams, Moore

Midfielders:
Bresciano, Cahill, Carle, Emerton, Culina, Grella, Jedinak, Oar, Vidosic

Forwards:
Kennedy, Kewell, Rukavytsya
