When I still played footy competitively myself and a few other boys from the squad would do it on the side. Damn it starts off painful.

^Well no it's a regime, apparently, the trainers used this method.
Probably not this website, that is an example I suppose.

To me its abit of an unrealistic work out for the average Joe. I read somewhere last year that Eric Grothe can only manage 28 chin ups, and Brett kimmorley 27, these are blokes who look after themselves, have been training in the gym for atleast 10 years and have access to some of the best strength and conditioning coaches, not to mention very good genetics. Its totally unrealistic to expect someone to pump out 25 pull ups at the end of a workout

Its not unrealistic aqua. The 25 pullups dont have to be done in a row without resting, you can stop as many times as you want as long as you complete 25 in total.

I have given it a crack a few times and have yet to complete it in under 25 min let alone 20 but my brother-in-law has done it.

No its definitely a test. All the actors tried to do it at the end of their training before filming and I think only a few managed it.

You really think you can do all that a couple times a week?

not sure if it was that specific training but some actors in that film were starting to develop some sort of arthritis and it wouldnt surprise me from all the weapons rehearsals they did besides this "300" workout

I think 'not really a workout' was meant to say that this program was used as a postscript to their training regime, not implying that it isn't a challenging workout.

That program is punishing.

Ah yes...lol.
If you'd know weight training, it's just the no rest breaks and repetitive nature that makes it so harsh and that you have to do it under 20 minutes.
But those sort of exercises are staples in a lot of exercise regimes around the world, probably super setted too.

FYI;

So, you're right in that it was sort of a test for measurement, but they actually did it throughout their training time for the movie...
