Yeah, I don't want him dropped out of spite, more that I don't see us coming close to the 8 this year so what's the point? Unless we sign an established first grader, Jack Ahearn will be playing fullback next year so we may as well blood him.

He's not going to get sacked this year, no matter how poorly we do, he'll be given AT LEAST 2 years to achieve what we hired him to do, if not the entire 3 years of his deal.

Now the question Stuart must ask himself is does he want to waste half a year of that with a guy who isnt in this club's future in an important position, or does he want to try Jack Ahearn or what ever other options are available to him, so that he can assess if a viable replacement can be found in house, or if he needs to try to recruit one..

The correct answer to that question seems fairly obvious to me. We'll see if Stuart's got the balls to make the right decision.

I don't care about the defensive deficiencies that Milford might present us, the fact is that we Brisbane fans had to endure Wallace/Prince who were about as creative as a brown paper bag, give me some attacking players with a bit of flare any day

those sorts of players get people to the ground

When teams have no realistic chance of making the 8 they should drop any players leaving them. That's the logical thing to do.

It's a really tough situation for Ricky Stuart isn't it?

If you persist with Milford, you run the risk of playing somebody who is only going to put in when they want to and delay any long term plans you may have.

On the other hand, you may lose the support of the fans, players and media if you dump a player like Milford to Queensland Cup in favour of a rookie who may not be up to it at that point.

He's going to have to be really delicate about the whole situation. He can't just cut Milford willy nilly, he's going to have to give him some time and look to bring Ahearn on in similar fashion as Furner brought Milford into the side.

Canberra fans must also recognise that they have bigger selection dilemmas than their fullback that need to be addressed ASAP.

I also agree with the concerns of running with Barba and Milford. It's definitely going to have its turbulence but thankfully the Broncos have some options coming through and to be perfectly honest, if the choice is between having Barba/Hoffman and Barba/Milford in my spine, I'm going to pick the latter without hesitation. Anthony is a great player, he wouldn't have two topics dedicated to him if that wasn't the case.

Of course we do. But given this thread is about Milford, it would be pretty silly to address them here.

Actually no, it wouldn't be, because we've got dickwits like you who are willing to allow Canberra's situation to go from bad to worse in order to spite Milford. You mustn't be that passionate about your club if you would have them suffer more in order to satisfy your own emotional vices.

Hahaha.

How did your club treat Justin Hodges when he signed with the Roosters?

It's much the same situation, isn't it? This year is a bust. We're not going to make the finals, and if we somehow manage to scrape in, it will say more about the poor standard of other teams than anything good coming from the Raiders.

Given that, it would make sense to plan for the future. Anthony Milford has made the decision that he will not be a part of that future. So while dumping him now may cause a little short term pain, it would be for long term gain.

It's not like we're winning with Milford in the team as it is, what difference would it make if we dropped Milford? We might start losing by 60 instead of 50?

If you don't think he has a place in a squad anymore then Canberra should release him. Not doing so and dooming him to QLD Cup for 6 months IS spiting him. Everyone knows Milford is not a reserve grade player anymore.

Alas, I very much doubt Stuart is going to be dropping one of the very few decent players in a terrible squad. Much like Griffin refuses to drop one or two stinkers in a great squad.

Yeah your problem lies with one or two players :sarcasm:

Nah mounties lol. Make him drive 3 hours back home the merkin.

In all seriousness, glad he came out and said what he did. No point waiting until round 12. Also I'm glad he has put in a solid effort so far and despite us having high expectations that he would remain at least he won't be lost to a rival code.

But he should totally be dropped to either qcup or anywhere. May as well bring in players that will be here next year. No need to further develop a departing player when we are running nearly last and favorite for the spoon.
