How many Souths fans on this forum are eligable to vote and if you don't mind sharing - which side are you on?

Being a Knights supporter I understand how difficult it is to see you club financially struggling but surely when it comes to survival of your club its up to the every day joe average to take some action and do his/her best to ensure the survival of something you love.

All the best Souths fans.

I'm a voting member. Which way am I going to go? I still have yet made up my mind. I am reading through the proposal and so far I'm really impressed. When I was at the fan day the other day I was also impressed in the way in which Holmes-a-Court in particular handled himself. It is a very big decision that we have to make and one that I won't take lightly.

Watching the reports on the news, it looked like Holmes a Court did a pretty good job there. If I followed Souths, I would much rather listen to him than Crowe. I feel sometimes that Crowe tries to move the crowd and get applause out of his speeches rather than sticking to the facts.

Crowe is very passionate when it comes to Souths. Crowe was speaking with alot more passion than anything else. As for Holmes-A-Court he was alot more level headed. The difference is that he has only been a supporter for the last 2 years.

Im a voting member and im all for the holmes-a-court proposal, as are most other members i have spoken too. Scary thing is yesterday, i recieved in the mail a letter from George Piggins asking me to sign my voting rights to him via proxy. It was full of bullsh*t propoganda and had a printed copy of the telecraps back page with the picture of the souths legends all saying they were in favour of george.
The 75% is going to be a real struggle with the amount of people that buy into his crap and have a postage paid envelope and the endorsment of a handful of club legends to encourage this proxy, im hoping to god there can be some sort of open debate set up between the two parties for members to attend before the election, so some of the more naive members can hear the true word spoken in person and wont be swayed by lies and deceit.

Old Goergie Boy was asking ICAC to look into this affair a few days back. I hope there will be an independant auditor to open and confirm proxies and count the votes. No wonder the clubs going down the financial sh*t chute - a mail out like that would not come too cheap and its good to see George's using the members money wisely, unless he used his own hard earned. He is a one man propagander machine.

Nice one... check out the big brain on RCB.
Well done CS, I laughed out loud reading the tribute and chuckled for the rest of the night every time I thought of it. My workmates probably wondered what I was thinking.

Geez, you've got to give credit where it's due, that's a smart move by Piggins. Apparently Noeline challenged Nick to a public debate. Nick accepted and then invited George, Henry and anyone else they wanted to roll out to join the show. I'll lay odds against it happening, George wouldn't want the facts getting in the way of his good story.

I deliberately ignored the easy line in the hope of keeping the discussion on track. But I guess if were commenting on someone else's post, I couldn't have resisted it either.

what the hell is this 75 percent bullsh*t?
the proposal could fail with a total vote of over 50 percent? who organised this and when?

Crowe's coment about "balance sheet" discussion with NRL was interesting.

Many of the clubs are either owned by News Limited or have been propped up to the tune of tens of millions of dollars. What guarantees are there, once News have recouped enough money (currently $10 million a year) that they won't say "right - no more and pay some back". This would send most clubs to the wall - to join the others.

Is this a smart way to run rugby league?

This is the rules of an EGM. To get something like this passed you need to get 75% of members who vote to pass it.

Piggins turns down VIP invite

THE battle for control of South Sydney has deepened with Rabbitohs patriarch George Piggins turning down an invitation to sit in the VIP box for the Charity Shield match tomorrow night at Telstra Stadium.

It is the first time in more than a decade the former player, coach and administrator has refused the offer, with his wife Nolene claiming yesterday her husband had been shown a lack of respect.

"George and I have always been in the VIP's box," Nolene said. "He was there 13 years as chairman (until 2003) and we've been invited ever since to the VIP's box.

"But there's no way in the world you'd walk into the VIP box the way the relationship with the board and management stands now.

"We'll go to the game but we just want to go quietly and keep to ourselves."

Piggins is at odds with the Souths board which has backed a $3 million privatisation proposal from Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court.

The Rabbitohs Leagues Club chairman believes the club is being undersold and has thrown his support behind former Souths Juniors boss Henry Morris, who is urging fans to oppose the sale of Souths.

The matter will be settled at an extraordinary general meeting on March 19, with Crowe and Holmes a Court requiring 75 per cent support from the 4505 voting members for their privatisation plans to proceed.

Morris claimed yesterday a major company had valued Souths at more than $3 million. "Souths members have the right to know what is the best deal," Morris said. "We are just looking around. This has nothing to do with Peter and Russell. We want them to still be involved."

Piggins told The Australian this week he would hand over the reins to Morris for the latest fight over control of the foundation club, to switch the focus to issues rather than personalities.

Holmes a Court will tonight host a dinner for about 20 former Rabbitohs captains and players at an inner-Sydney pub.

The guest list boasts several faces from the 1989 minor premiership team including Mario Fenech, Les Davidson, Ian Roberts and Craig Coleman as well as players from the 1990s, Darrell Trindall and Sean Garlick. If they back the privatisation plan, that will pit them against Souths legends including Bob McCarthy, Ron Coote and John Sattler who have already put their support behind Piggins.

I wonder if HAC invited the legends and whether they have actually been briefed about the proposal before coming down on George's side.

this whole fiasco is a blight on the game.

should have kept the f**kers out when they were gone. Souths have added f**k all to the value of the game since they returned.

The tactic of signing over your proxy is not a new one.

The smartest thing the other mob can do is get the board to mail the membership a letter asking them NOT to sign over their proxy.

Given the usual makeup of a clubs memberships though, I sincerely doubt they will get the 75% required.

Sadly.
