The Big Announcement hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm:-k:-k:-k

NOW they have some spare cash after releasing Timana Tahu,
Parramatta have begun negotiations with former Manly winger Chris Hicks.

The Daily Telegraph can also reveal that the Sea Eagles have narrowly missed signing ex-NSW halfback Brett Finch.

Hicks is back in Australia after three seasons with Super League club Warrington.

This year he became the first Australian to score three tries in an English Challenge Cup final when Warrington beat Leeds 30-6 at Wembley.

Hicks, 33, whose spot at Warrington has been taken by Joel Monaghan, has spoken to Parramatta about a one-year contract for next season that would grant his wish for a final season in the NRL.

Recruiting Hicks, who has played 262 games for Penrith, Manly and Warrington, would give Parramatta depth in their outside backs.

Hicks, who played in Manly's 2007 grand final loss to Melbourne, is also considering a season with Catalans in Super League or a year of Shute Shield rugby with the Warringah Rats.

Parramatta believe they can sign Hicks, who is reliable, experienced and a goalkicker, for a reasonable price.

One source close to Parramatta said: "We are definitely talking to Chris."

Tahu and Parramatta will formally split today.

Meanwhile, The Daily Telegraph has been told that Finch was on the verge of becoming a Sea Eagle next season on a second-tier contract.

Finch was ready to accept a full-time role on Channel 7's The Matty Johns Show and play with Manly on a deal worth about $50,000.

He was a regular guest on the show over the back end of last season.

But the former Storm five-eighth had agreed to play with Wigan, although he had not officially signed a contract.

While tempted to remain in the NRL and live on Sydney's Northern Beaches, Finch felt he could not renege on his agreement and accepted the Wigan deal.

The 28-year-old will play for Wigan next year and in 2012. He had also been chased by Super League club Hull Kingston Rovers.

Wigan, the reigning Super League champions, have also signed Melbourne forwards Ryan Hoffman and Jeff Lima.

Former Storm assistant coach and current Wigan coach Michael Maguire told British media: "Having worked with all three during my time at Melbourne, I am thrilled that they will be joining us from next season. All three are champion players with experience at the highest level.

"They have a great work ethic and are top-quality additions who will complement our existing playing squad."

A Hypothetical Big Announcement

To win over members on the eve of the coming club election 3P announce a new cost measure which trims a further $4.55 from the bottom line.

With travelling and accommodation expenses (both away and home) going through the roof the Eels are buying a flotilla of Piaggio APE5 motor homes for all NRL and Toyota cup players. They have planned for players to permanently live in them and use them to journey to and from all matches across Australia. When at home they are parked in the new 15 story building development underway on land owned by the club across the road from the leagues club. Parking bay cubicles similar to Millers storage units will be provided for each players comfort.

The club feels they can bring a stronger unity amongst the squad by supporting new coach Stephen Kearney's curfew. Players must be home in bed by 11.00pm. Eels management feel their club needs to progress with the times so they have installed the latest big brother sensing technology that scans players DNA. As players enter the premises the technology projects an electromagnetic pulse searching for drugs, alcohol and casual sex.

NRL cap policy enforcer Ian Schubert, is excited by the idea but is not sure at this time if these costs will be part of the cap or can be covered by the new 4th and 5th party sponsor program introduced by South Sydney to fit Greg Inglis under the salary cap.
