They should have never have re-signed cooper, not that he is shit but they should have used it as an opportunity to refresh their squad (just like manly should use their current player unrest as an opportunity to rebuild their side). But Bellamy aren't that smart, a bit of short term pain for long term gain.

LOL @ that clown Finch saying Smith deserves special treatment from opposition players because he's Aus captain.

We got bashed early on, panicked and did some silly passes. Players should have prepared for this.
Smith and Slater should retire at the end of their current contracts but Cooper Cronk can play longer.

It was inevitable as the 3 got older they would also get slower and most likely become injury prone. Craig Bellamy is no fool and has already indicated this will be his last contract as he is fully aware he would be lucky to get one player of their caliber to replace them, let alone another 3. No doubt Bellamy is a good coach but he has had a massive leg-up having those 3 in his team during his stint as a coach there. A bit like Trent Robinson having a team full of rep players (that are allegedly, miraculously under the cap).

Slater gets shut down whenever he makes a break these days, in his prime when he got some space he was away for the money.

They should have kept Widdop and Inglis. With them in their prime Cam Smith's twilight would have been better because his load would be lightened. And the aging Slater and Cronk would be taking up a million dollars of capspace for 2 of their rivals.

Those two decisions tell me Bellamy wanted 1 more premiership after the scandal more than he wanted long term success beyond his own time at the club.

It seems to me Melbourne lost because their spine was too old. Smith is clearly past it and Slater simply doesn't cut it these days. Age has caught up with them. Where will their next superstars come from do you think? I got 62 last time, can I get 63 fishies?

So what you're saying is that the Storm have osteoporosis of the spine?

And what is 63 fishies?

Slater - lost his speed and ability to dazzle with a great play over the last 2 years. I think he's improved his ball playing skills but on the whole he's not the playerhe used to be. Inglis and Hayne have usurped as the best fullbacks in the game.

Cronk - a very good halfback but not a great one. For mine he's become too structured and doesn't look like a natural footballer. Compare him to Thurston and he's not in the same class.

Smith - a great player, probably one level below immortal class. Hasn't really declined, just doesn't have the cattle around him these days.

The storm will still make finals in the next couple of years - the 3 are still decent players and Jesse Bromwich is an outstanding front rower but I think the days of storm challenging for premierships are gone.

Good times.
