The Billy Johnstone Effect

Without a doubt, Billy Johnstone is the best trainer in the comp.

I've noticed that whenever he leaves a team, that team tends to struggle fitness-wise.
Lets look at the Bulldogs. For years on end, they were the fittest team in the comp when Johnstone was there. No Bulldog team was ever truly beaten until the final siren. Their players had a great attitude to defence and layed for each other. Since his departure, this attitude has disappeared.

Cowboys had their best years under Johnstone. He whipped those boys up to a stage where they were the fittest team in the comp. They also never gave up and had a staunch defensive line. When their players started to have a cry about Johnstone's methods, Johnstone left and so did the Cowboys good results.

The Gold Coast now are the fittest team in the comp. Even though their away record is poor, they never throw the towel away. They have the Billy Johnstone attitude about them.

Mentioned in the papers and referenced on here a couple of weeks ago. Just a rumour at this stage.

Imagine the esteem he would be held in if he trained teams that actually won priemerships, or even competed on a regular basis for those premierships.

I think Mary MacGregor and his training regimes have worked wonders for the Dragons over the years. No injuries what so ever.

Mary was rumoured to be going to the Titans and look what happened. Bailey went down for the yr and Lima is out or 6 weeks.
Dont underestimate Mary!

i dont think there is too much between trainers at NRL level tbh
i mean Canberra's fitness bloke is Sean Edwards, no one and even alot of raiders fans would know who he was, but he's done a tremendous job with our team fitness wise... Mick Weyman for example is the fittest and trimmest he's ever been.

The differences are huge.
You can tell who has and hasn't got a decent strength and conditioning coach in their corner.

NQ I hope you're right because we need him back with Neil to make anything of next year after this dog's breakfast.
Maybe the boys have learned by now it's better to have a coach that wears you out or a coach that doesn't f**k all ala our recently jumped ship one.
