Being doing the rounds for the last month but last night if you did not catch it, channel 1 late mail, say we are going to offer the aging, slow, unwanted backrower Andrew Ryan a one year deal.

After telling Rhino his days as a starting player are gone and he will be a bench player in 2012 and we need size and power in 2012 to be able to compete, the great Tom Shines is looking at a old slow broken Bobcat.

Give me a break, just when you thought Shines had hit rock bottom he pulls another rabbit from his hat. The guy is a walking talking contradiction and makes it up as he goes along.

I know if it happens, the spin doctors will be working overtime selling the experience factor. Well if that is the case why did they flick Gibbs, surely we would be talking the same coin and from where I sit Gibbs is well in front of the broken Bobcat.

Iam all for a cleanout and a new direction for 2012 but Bobcat Ryan your kidding yourself Shines--go and see a shrink and get some medication

Perhaps the Dwyer situation is behind this?

i'd be very surprised if bobcat is leaving the club to join one of our rivals, he's been there for 9 years, and is a doggies champion, he'll either go to england or i think we'll offer him some sort of ambassador role or coaching role at the club, but i don't see him becoming a tiger

Mate I hope you are right, we dont need him and it would be a shame to see a player who was a great player linger on too long. Its happened many times before. He probably has already gone one season too long lets not make it two. Maybe we are just being used to up his demand and in turn his value in ESL

I thought we had shaken the tag of being a retirement home (which we had in our first 4 seasons)

Size btw has been proven to be a myth.

Teams with the focus on having big powerful packs haven't really been the best performers.

Parramatta, Canberra, Sharks etc

For mine it is not about size, but impact. We have lacked impact for years, and realistically only Ellis and Galloway currently provide it on a consistent basis.

Ryan has ZERO impact. Sure he will make a few tackles, and take a few hit ups, but he will be belted everytime doing so. Most of his tackles will be second and third man in flops, he will never punish anyone defensively and he certainly doesn't dent or bend the line in attack. He is basically a poor mans Heighington, only slower and older.

You know our team is in a sorry state of affairs when I thought you were talking about Beau Ryan and his stints in the pack recently.

 I thought excatly the same thing reading that.

The sad thing is the summary is exactly the same whether it is Beau or Andrew

I tend to agree, look at manly they have a few big boopers but it seems all their little bar fridges on legs do the damage. Low centre of gravity and do everything at 100 mph. Players like Chock and combat (Vic Marau). Impact is the key word

Manly always seem to have a pretty good blend on their bench and more importantly Hassler uses his bench effectively. Rose, King, Kite etc are all pretty big units that get rotated at the right time.

When Watmough and the others come into it is when the other pack gets tired. All too often coaches leave their stars on a bit too long and the likes of Watmough, Burher and Mauro tear through them when they get knocked up. The crucial bit isn't so much their bulk, it is the size of their heart...

I hate playing Manly for this very reason. I think we are going to struggle with them tonight and if Sheens doesn't go with a good bench and use them properly (not this crap he has been doing) we are in trouble.

I have a horrible feeling about tonight, hope I'm wrong......but I fear Manly will tear us apart. I hate Manly but they are a good side this year.
They have size & particularly the agro to give it to us, it will be a good test of where we really are. Sh*t I'm starting to sounds like Sheens....
Also lets see how we handle Cherry-Evans, he is a quality rookie IMO & steering Manly around the park like a pro. We have to nail him & cut down his time & options.
Manly have struggled a bit of late to put sides away, lets hope we are still in it after 70 minutes & spring an upset.....

And on the Bobcat issue, I might be on my own here but I think he would be a good one year buy for us, he needs a change of scenery & used off the bench just maybe we might see some flashes of the old Bobcat????

Magpie T-- I just cant see us making enough yards from deep in our own territory to get any field position from our kick and they will keep coming at us from short range. Matia and watmough scoots from dummy halve will hurt us late in the halves. But as you said this should tell us if we are any chance of playing a role come september. Iam not saying we cant win but really would be one hell of a boil over

As an old Magpie man I'm used to all my wins being boilovers LOL, but I'll take it
