The Bye Round Podcast

Not sure if any of you guys listen to James Grahams podcast? It's pretty good, definitely worth a listen. The latest one is a two part interview with Sheens. Part one goes for 90mins. I've only listened to roughly the first 30mins, but it's all been about the current situation at the tigers.
He's pretty candid about how the club is being run/coached. I'm paraphrasing but basically, Benji is coaching the team, purely coaching. Sheens is doing all the behind the scenes stuff, media commitments etc. He describes it as an apprenticeship & he doesnt want him digging holes for the next two years. He wants him focused on coaching for the next two years without distractions. He (Benji) has autonomy over team selections & retention, building the team he wants for 2025. Benji runs attack, Furner is in charge of defence, Robbie moves between both. Sheens reckons Robbie is working hard in administration parts & will prpbably move to that area in the future, CEO etc.
Anywys give it a listen, better to hear whats going on straight from the horses mouth rather than speculation.

Very interesting Mr R.

So I guess we can stop blaming Sheens for his Sheens like selections. It's now on Benji.

Thank god for Furner, the A (320), when compared to Benji, the F (239).

Only the Chooks have scored less points than the Tigers 228 to 239 and 8 teams have had more points scored against them than the Furner trained Tigers. Yep it's on Benji now.

Was a pretty good discussion actually.

But made me very sad when Sheens was asked what he would do differently from his first stint and he said he basically had a choice between signing Adam Blair or James Graham. What a sliding doors moment if we had Graham instead of Blair for all those years.

In fairness I think our attack isn't in that bad a shape (funny to say with the stats) but we are constantly in position to score points, we all know it has been our halves that have been utterly incompetent in turning all the good field position and chances into points.

It also seems clear that Benji and the club are aware of this given we have chased every single half that has come on the market.

I can think of a couple more
not sign Braith Anasta
not let Andrew Fifita go
Sign an actual halfback to replace Scott Prince. Sign an actual fullback to replace Brett Hodgson.

Failing that, in 2009, make Gallant first choice fullback with Junior Burger as his backup. Make Moltzen and Benji our first choice halves, with Johnny Cronk as backup.

What that tells me is that Benji can't coach attack and needs someone to just come in "do something" when in the opposition 20.
