Well, in the sense that it was a generic core wrapped in fresh candy wrapper.
Yes the settings, characters & soundtrack were all a wonderful departure and the first two thirds of it was certainly fun to watch.
But peel off the layers and ultimately it was another generic origin story with the usual cliched bad guy wants to blow up planet + band of misfits save the day. Character motivations all around were sketchy, especially with the team banding together randomly in five minutes; the villain was poorly developed & wasted and said planet wasn't even Earth so we cared even less. I particularly hated the dance-off scene, but that's a matter of opinion.
It was a mixed bag, as flawed as most of the popcorn Marvel movies.
Maybe it’s because I’ve already seen all of the movies that tried to duplicate it’s “make it funny, add pop culture references, old school soundtrack” formula so it now just seems derivative even though it was really the first of the new comic movies to do that.
Also, anything with a huge amount of CGI tends to throw me, especially entirely CGI characters. Once the raccoon and groot were introduced the whole thing felt like Mary Poppins jumping into a painting. I got this feeling during the airport scene for civil war as well, the whole thing just had no weight to it.
Loved the first half, second half got very bored and then the ending was just rubbish and made the first half or more of the next so very predictable.
Way too long
As if they are going to leave those characters dead, particularly Spiderman and Black Panther as well as Drax and Groot. Completely took me out of it and ruined any great emotion to deaths. Next is just going to be setting time back
Given the size and amount of characters - they managed to do quite well
It was almost like a pulp fiction structure, where you have different sub plots with the same ending. It was probably the best way they could do it

They're just setting up for the next movie, but I agree
They either don't kill anyone or they over do it to the point where it doesn't matter
Dr Strange giving him the stone and saying it was the "only way" tells us the story isn't done (he did see the one way to defeat him out of 14 million possible alternative versions)
Thor was great I thought
Josh Brolin did an excellent job as Thanos (even though the CGI in some scenes look off)
Giant Tyrion was cool
Disappointed there was no Hulk
post-credit scene with Captain Marvel teaser is an awesome set up
and is it me or did they just give up on Scarlet Witch's accent?
Loved it.
Seeing Thor finally have the power he should was great.
Hulk/Banner with performance anxiety brought a great element to it. Not fussed with not too much Hulk in it
Thanos was Savage and ruthless but his motivations work really well throughout the story.
Not sure what the fuss is about with his CGI?
Conflicted with where I want this to go. Hoping they don't just reset the clock here. But having said that, some of the characters if they stay dead, what a shame!!

When Tony asked Strange why he did it he said it’s the only way. So I’m sure the way he saw them defeating Thanos is in motion which probably involves Captain Marvel (end credit scene)
I thought it was kinda cool that the majority of the hero’s that lived were the originals with the exception of Rocket Racoon. This next avengers will most likely be a last hurrah for a few of them especially Rogers, Stark and Thor (my prediction) and the likes of Black panther, Spiderman, Star Lord etc will then join avengers for phase 4.
When Strange gave Thanos the time stone so easily I thought he would’ve put some sort of spell on it.

Honestly don’t think they kill off Thor in Avengers 4 after Ragnarok’s success, but then again someone died here who I wouldn’t have called so what the f**k do I know?

Only Loki and Gomorah deaths are real, the rest will just be rolled back. They've already announced sequels to BP and SM. For mine that just made the whole end pointless

Yeh his contract is up and his trilogy is done but with the success of Ragnarok I’m sure they’d be tempted to go again with Thor and erase the first 2 movies.
Strange will get his 2 as will spiderman and Captain Marvel comes into it so I’m sure there are plenty of hero’s to keep the avengers going. Surely Cap is done (Steve Rogers version at least)

Didn’t for me. Makes the fight harder for those remaining especially without a guy like Strange helping till the end. I liked the remaining ones were the originals plus Rocket.
