Well the brains trust of the inner tube have gotten together, debated the intricacies, spoken to officials & the correct decision has been identified.

David peachey should be retained.
Contract length should be 1 year with 1 year option in Peacheys favour.
Amount should be between 200-250k

key points

1.Peachey is elligble for 10 year dispensation. That is up to 50% discount on a single contract up to a maximum of 100k.
In essence, effectively giving the sharks a cap of 3.35 mill.(not 3.25)

2. Marketing analysis has estimated the marketing power of David Peachey is valued at around 300K-400k per year for the club. This involves ticket sales, merchandise, sponsorship attraction & corporate involvement.

3. David Peachey is ranked as one of the leading NRL fullbacks of the last seven years & is still one of the top 5 now.

4. The team plays poorly with out him, more often than not, they lose. Losses further affect ticket sales & merchandise towards the negative.

5. Leadership. With so many young players at the club, his leadership, maturity & direction is a must.

6. Inspiration. The way he plays the game is talked about by many. He isinspirational to watch. One can only imagine how inspirational he is to play with.

7. Fitness. His fitness rating is good. No major ligament damage to any joints. 1 broken bone in 10 years. Speed is still very good. Strength is average.

Summary
By not retaining David Peachey, the club will lose approx 300-400k per year. The team will lose the most experienced player. The team will lose a key organiser, distributor & ball runner but most of all, our most dangerous attacking player.
In effect by re-signing Peach, the club will make 200k on the deal.
The only option for the club is to sign 1 of 3 or 4 players to replace him immediately.
Fittler
Tallis
Lockyer

There are no negatives in re-signing Peachey.

Totally agree with you Reefy, Peachey is great, he adds so much to our squad, most people who know nothing about RL know of Peachey he's a huge marketing tool. He's also a great ambassador for our game. We would be stupid not to retain him.

I am not up on this dispensation business. When did this come in?

About the same time the Rorters finally got someone to stay longer than 2 years.

Just because I don't think Peachey should be retained for next year doesn't make me anti Peachey. Besides E.T I think he has been the most influential player to our past successes in the last decade. But every footballer must hang up their boots eventually and I think the time has come for Peach to call it a day. I'd like to remember him at his peak rather than the possibility of a lesser undignified send off.

But in response to your propaganda,

1.Great we get the 10 year dispensation and a salary cap of 3.35million. But since when have the Sharks ever used there whole salary cap?

2. Sure he has been a great marketing tool and been the hero for many young kids. But there is always new heroes that always take their place. Crowds are big when where winning no matter who is wearing the No. 1 on their back. So if we start off next year 0-5 we'll get 18,000 through the gate next home game because Peachey's playing?

3. Peachey is one of the top 5 fullbacks now? If the following fullbacks were on the open market where would Peachey rate?

Karmichael Hunt
Ben Hornby
Anthony Minichiello
Matt Bowen
Brent Webb
Brett Stewart
Clinton Schifcofske
Billy Slater
Rhys Wesser
Darren Lockyer

Your going to tell me he is in the top 5 of that lot ?
And do not go on past history or even this year because we are talking next season. Some of those young guns I have mentioned will only be better.

4. We lose when we don't have him true. But does that mean we have to keep him till he's 45? We've lost plenty of times by huge scores with him!!!!! He is no mesiah now.I think it means we have to go into the player market and find someone who will do his job but better for next year and have Simmons and Goodwin as backups for fullback.

5. Leadership? He has been a fantastic leader over the past decade but it's no good being a good leader when you will struggle to walk the walk after talking the talk. Kimmorley,Stevens and co. will give us that.

6. He's been an exeptional inspirational player. Even this year he has done some out of the box things. But he's also had some 'howlers' with handling mistakes that have led to trys and 'howlers' in defence. He could be just as inspirational as part of the club coaching. I'm sure he would always be welcome in whatever capacity at Shark Park.

7. Fitness? We've been through this before. Yes he has missed a small amount of games during his career. But in the past couple of seasons he has been dogged by a bad hammy and his latest leg injury. They take longer to heal at his age and occur more frequently now. I remember Peachey taking intercepts from his own 10 metres and going on to score, these days he gets 20 metres down the field and gets run down. I can tell you he is no where near the speed he used to be.

It's true Peach is not the Peach of old with jaw-dropping line breaks, and blistering speed. But the quality of options he gives us in attack as a playmaker, alongside Noddy, are IMHO more than enough to sign him for another year. That'd be about it though.

He's my favourite Shark and I agree I don't want to see him fade into oblivion by playing on longer than he should but I do believe he has one more year in him

I don't really understand this thread. All of your points were blatantly obvious. I guess you are trying to bait DS, which worked.

Anyway, Peach has been my favourite player for a long time now and I hope they will retain him.

Millers you know you shouldn't question Reefy's percentages OR are you baiting him.
I've said before when peach jumps into 5/8 in attack he's far more dangerous than Noddy

actually i have no reason to doubt reefy

i am just curious where such stats are compiled and how

i think he is very effective as a classic fullback backline runner popping up at random positions

his strength is total unpredictability - perhaps the most unpredictable player i have seen

problem sometimes is even he doesnt know what he is doing

Surely

Well said, to lose Peachey would be devastating to our side, look how we play when he is not in the team.

Well for a man who posts so much, its amazing you hadn't posted this information.
I had no idea until informed yesterday of Peaches dispensation position
I had no idea of the exact amount.
I had no idea of his marketing value.

DS is just one of the anti peachey brigade. Your mate pogo is another. He is also anti nuttley & anti galloway.

And to DS
Where in the information I have posted does it say Peach will be contracted until 45?
It says 2 years. He will be 32 when he retires.

In terms of who peachey is better than now & will be better than for at least next year & probably the year after:
Lockyer 5/8th
shiff
Hronby
Wesser
Stewart. Ohh thats right he's fast , so he's better.
Webb
Bowen
hunt has a big future but Peachey is more important to the team. this was demonstrated in the last match up where Peach dominated & hunt went missing.

& the Sharks rate Peachies fitness as good. Despite your persistence of sore muscles.
