The Countdown to Misanthrope's Singularity

After visiting Hawaii and particularly Waikiki where there are a large number of Japanese tourists, I found them to be some of the worst I've come across. Whether it's lack of understanding or just plain arrogance, they are pushy and elitist to the extreme. They just seem to think they are better than everyone else and ignore all directions from non Japanese. They talk when they shouldn't, take photos when they aren't allowed, walk across roads when they aren't supposed to, consistently risking their own lives and stopping traffic in the process.

They push into lines, step into elevators when others are trying to get out and generally just do whatever they feel like.

The lowlight for me was a Japanese guy walking around the Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor in a shirt that had the Japanese flag on it and the words "you will never beat us".

Thankfully, you don't see them at mealtime unless you eat in a Japanese restaurant (you'd think they'd like to try local food for something different when traveling, but no.) and they only seem interested in shopping and the top 3 attractions anywhere they travel. Drive 5 minutes out of Waikiki and you don't see them, even though the North shore of Oahu is IMO the best part of the island with pristine beaches, they don't get out of the tour buses as they drive through there. They are too busy busting a gut to get back to the duty free to appreciate the best parts of the island.

That's just mainland Asia, I'm sad to say. The Chinese and the Koreans are exactly the same.

Hey DKOR did you happen to run into a couple of Aussies by the name of Michelle and Leigh?

I'm surprised at how nice Americans can be when you meet them while traveling. I always thought they'd be arrogant pigs but I consistently find them to be great. The best travelers IMO are Canadians but septics aren't far behind.

When I went to America many, many years ago (When I was a kid) I loved it and I remember the people being very, very friendly. I was talking to a few people who got back and they had nothing but praise for the generosity and how friendly people were to them over there.

Also, any luck finding the ring?

Thanks mate. Had 24 shit hours where I felt like the worst person in the world. Then it turned up and I was straight back in the good books again. Going to get it re-sized later this week so it fits better. Hopefully that should mean I don't lose it again.

Yeah, glad ou found the Ring DKOR.

Are you certain the pushy people were Japanese though?
Normally they are very strict with lines and considerate travelers.
I've travelled in Japan and with Japanese abroad, and what you Describe sounds like Chinese.

Japanese, Chinese, Korean (South). They are all horrible at human decency.
The Chinese are the worst I've met (and lived with) so far, I can't help but think Korean (lived there) and Japan (not yet) are bad but they aren't the rude, selfish pricks the Chinese are.
Although, I understand why ALL of Asia hates the Japanese.

If the guy on the USS Arizona Memorial wore a Japanese Flag t-shirt... he's gonna be Japanese.

Pretty much this. The Chinese are by far the rudest culture I've encountered. Most individuals I've interacted with on a personal level have been lovely, but if there's a more selfish and inconsiderate people on a societal out there - I've yet to meet them.

Definitely Japanese. I have Chinese and Japanese friends back home and can tell the difference in language / gestures. All the head bowing is generally a dead giveaway for a start.

Anyway... I don't want to sound like a racist because I most certainly am not. It's just an observation based on my travels. I'm sure that all Japanese aren't this way.

It's funny that the Chinese get such a bad rap. I have always found them really helpful & considerate when I go there. My experience is limited to Guangdong province though.

That's the funny bit. Individually, I've met mostly great people here. Wonderfully friendly and helpful.

It's just as a group I've found them difficult. Riding trains, sharing bars with them, working in an office with them etc.
