The Cronulla of old

Is it just me or does it look like Cronulla are leaving their run a little late on the decent players available for next year ? Its funny how they put more importance on re-signing players who have been unable to win us a flag so far and refuse to look at proven players as they come on the market.
Sam Isemonger, are you joking ? The bloke has played about 3 good games in the last 3 years and we are re-signing him, and then all the fans will cry "why did we re-sign him". Hey SHARKS have you noticed that the other clubs have started spending their money already ??
The seasons are going to be very long and painful as long as the current board is in control..........

So you think the safe thing is NOT sign our current players and then hope to sign a few?

And dare I ask, which player currently on the market would you have signed?

Kite? God no

Kennedy? Maybe but he is always out

Pig? LOL no!

Our targets are still out there.

If you had a car that broke down every day on the way to work would you insist on using it or would you buy another better one ?

And yes we sould have gone after Kite, young up and coming forward with heaps of guts, unlike most of our forwards. Oh wait thats right we re-signed Isemonger. I'm sure he will be the answer to all our problems

I am supporting MS here with our decision to resign Isomonger.
He's only had a couple decent games this year and the game after he signed on the dotted line he had his usual ordinary game, hope he's playing for match payments.
We made him an offer and he jumped at it because there was only one other alternative...souths
and thats where all our other released players go.

If thats the case, I hope I see Merritt in the red and green next year. He hasnt really played 1 decent game this year, and he's getting 180k for it .

Depends on the car.
If it was basically a good car, which just needed some fine tuning and some "hotting up" then I'd keep the car and modify it.

It's a bit harsh to use that as an analogy.

You are overseas and have stated that you don't see many games. Sam Isemonger, for one, I would have agreed with you earlier this season. But having an injury-free run for the first time in about 3 years he is beginning to show the sort of form he had back in PL years ago when he was a regular in junior rep sides. He is, along with Gallen, the pick of our 2nd rowers at the moment.

As far as I can see, the club has gone about retaining the right players to have a good base for the modifications.

Now if we'd re-signed the much-lauded, yet highly overrated, Bickerstaff before Sammy et al I'd have to agree with you.

One last thing, I know from experience how tough it is being o/s and not seeing the team regularly so I can appreciate you are finding it tough to figure out where they are at. But from what I have read of your posts you are quite negative in your opinion of them.

Ease up, they have the makings of a bloody good side.
It is just going to take some tinkering between now and next season to get it right.

Sam has 55 games of top grade behind him now.
Spread across 3 disastrous injury years. Maybe more.
This was make or break time for him & if he suffers another season ender, on would think he will retire.
In perspective, bird has played 35 games across 2 seasons.
Even merrit is at 30 odd games.

The iCe Axe wil improve as he strings some together but he will aslo have some poor games too.
Same as everyone.

Very interesting Stat

Greg Bird has more experience in the top grade than sully by 2 games.

Agreed, Reefy.
I was actually surprised he came back from his last injury.
I remember at the time thinking it would be Sean Ryan all over again.

Now there's a guy who never realised his potential as a result of injuries

Maybe I am too harsh, but after following the Sharks for the last 20 years and seeing the same mistakes being made by the board and the same recruiting pattern, it is very hard to stay positive. I love the team as much as anyone so maybe that is why I get soooooo pissed sometimes. Come round 10 - 12 of any season you can get a good idea of how the team is going to go and as far as I can see our season is as good as over. Thats not to say we can't learn things and try to build comibinations with some players. But they need to be active in recruiting decent players and cutting the deadwood. If Raper doesn't have plans for you for next year you should be in PL. Our race is over for this year, lets work towards building a stronger team for next year............bahumbug :(

I agree with you Military, our recruitment is pathetic. Vagana only came to our club on the basis of getting a job after football.

I agree with your on a few things military, but not on Isemonger, he was a bargain price and on this seasons form was well worth re-signing for 2 more years.

what I DO agree with you is on the lethargic style of marketplace action our board continues to take.

The longer it draws on without any major signings, the more likely it is that some mediocre first graders, 2 or 3 will be signed in the next 4 weeks, a song and dance will be done about it, and the fans will once again be let -down when these "big" signings are announced.

isemonger is one of the few forwards we have with real potential

i like his boots and all style

he seems to have fixed the awful handling problems that dogged his game last and early this year

I was going to ask how much we are paying for ice - before I can judge the resigning. But beeker has already made the point, with info. :D

Anyone got a rough idea who is on what?
Obviously BK, Vag's and Stevo would take a big chunk, how much we paying for the rest.
There is 3.25million to spend.

There is still a lot of players to pay, and over 2 mill to spend.
