Very good point here by the starter of the topic, yet how come its only the roosters who get crucified for not having juniors? Double bloody standards here.

How do you figure the Dogs developed Ryan when he played for NSW whilst at Parra??

I'd say he left Parra for more money too seeing he's said to of taken two paycuts since joining the Dogs.

The Dogs do have a decent junior comp that they maintain and also as was pointed out in one of the later posts you can hardly fault their recruitment of players such as SBW, Steve Price and Asotasi... It's a not a fair comparison against the Roosters with there distain for jnr leagues and penchant for stealing boom youngsters from weaker clubs...
And I never heard about this Gower offer either....

He didn't leave for more money he left because he was unwanted from memory and Smith had him ending the season in reserve grade...

What a load of shit. His last game was v Brisbane in the 2002 finals.

And if he didn't leave for more money you're saying he's taken three paycuts since 2001.

1. When he initially signed.

2. After the cap rorts

3. Another this year to help things out as he said in an article.

He wouldn't of been on big money at Parra and there's no way he's getting less now despite taking two paycuts which he said he he had in an article earlier this year.

I'm sure he spent time in reserves just before he left..... And he was without doubt out of favour with El Brian...

I see your wrong again, Ryan had a second year syndrome type of year in 2002, but he still was very high on Brians list in keeping

Poor example using Marshall as typical of Sheens use of juniors.
He sees Marshall as ready for firsts, and had no hesitation in not rushing him but bringing him thru quicker thatn others such as Dene Halatau, Bronson Harrison, Bryce Gibbs, Chris Patterson, Chris Heighnington Rob Farah etc who are all getting penty of PL plus time on the firsts bench.
yeah, but look what happened to him.... bam and missed half of the season. Same happened to Sonny Bill. I guess the point we're all trying to make here is when is a junior ready? eventually they're going to have the baptism of fire, it all depends if we just singe their hair and start them slow or throw them in the deep end and watch them burn.

i can't recall him spending time there.

still, he would not of left for less money and then taken two further pay cuts as he said here as he would not of been on a huge salary at Parra.

Yeah fair point. But my main point stands: weather or not the Dogs offered him more money I don't think was why he left (and you can't compare it to what he was on at Parra more what they were offering which we'lll never know) it more because he wasn't happy there...

I'm not sure what your trying to say there mate. My arguement still stands I don't think he was happy at the eels under smith much like various other players of that era that have now moved on to bigger and better things...

FFS mate, we won the premiership. So did your team.

Why the f**k would we want him when we have Sherwin and Anasta?
You guys got Anasta, lol you say that like its a good thing

Look I have no problems with the dogs recruitment system, they do alot for junior leagues in this area. I mean its not like the roosters who basically don't give a flying f*ck about junior leagues but the problem is alot of boys in the area show potential at a young age but don't always follow on for one reason or another hence why the dogs need to bring in players from the bush or NZ or wherever.

thats what i was going to say
and aqua_duck, the roosters over the last few years have doubled their junior clubs and player numbers
its not our fault that:
a). there aren't many kids in the area
b). most of these kids play union due to attending private schools
c). souths stole a lot of our junior clubs
