Obviously those happy with Elliot far out weigh those unhappy with him, and a lot that say they are happy with him are allowing him one more year to prove his worth. Give our squad what position would we have to finish to sawy your opinion of him? For me being a 'nego'/Anti-Elliot i given our squad if he can take us to top 4 with some showing of attacking football i will conceed defeat and say he is a decent coach

Given most are givin him one more chance, i want to know what will it take, how low will we have to sink to get you to think otherwise

PS. please dont turn this into a slanging match

I can't say I am particularly happy. I have just said I am prepared to see how he goes next year. If he doesn't deliver a top 4 finish, and I mean a genuine one... not a 2003 type one.... then we have to do a serious search for a new coach.

69, i would have thought that there's more anti-Elliotts than pro-Elliott? ie, more negos than posos?

Not a bad post R_69 though I feel most will not indicate what they voted.

I chose 6th or lower. Higher than that will initiate a change of opinion on his coaching credentials.

I think this because if Elliott is to achieve the five year plan, then any lower result will not produce a premiership by the fifth year. We can't afford any more lack of success as a club.

Kris is a nego who dosent like being called a nego but rather a rationalist (if i remember correctly)

my main ambition for 2005: i want us to win a semi. that means we make the top 6 (some might argue that table position is more important, i definitely don't). even if we finish in the top 4 on the ladder, if we don't win a semi, i'm pissed off.

well i didnt put a 4th or high cause IMO anything above 6 is a good season for us next season. and i wanted the emphisis on the posos and what would change their minds on his coaching.

I agree with Kris. We have made the semis for 3 years in a row and lost every semi match. This means we finished 8th, 6th and 8th. Hardly inspiring. We need to do better than that AT LEAST.

I chose 7th or lower.

I think Elliott is a good coach. With the squad we had last year, IMO we did well to make the finals. Also, IMO we have a better side for 05 then we did for 04, and thus I expect our position on the ladder to indicate this. If we finish lower than 6th, I will be disappointed, however, I don't think we can judge purely on standings...

ie. if we lose to the top 4 teams by say 1-6 points, due to a dropped ball, or missed opportunity and these results prohibit the team from making a genuine charge up the ladder, I will not blame things on Elliott. After all, I am a strong believer, that the players need to take some of the blame. If it is their dropped ball, or missed tackle that causes us to lose the game, and costs us a few points on the ladder, I will not solely judge Elliott's performance on where we finish on the table.

Yes, but we actually have people here who think 10th or lower is reasonable..... #-o #-o #-o #-o

May not be the case...

The question is "when will your opinion change" and they are saying if we finish 10th or lower that is it... Their opinion will change, most probably to the nego side.

Lucky to make the finals with last year's squad???????????? Everyone on this forum was saying at the start of the season that it would at least be another top 4 finish.... with a premiership a real possibility. Now we are saying we are lucky to have made the semis with this squad???????

We massively underperformed this year, with the squad we had, and the coach has publicly admitted his miscalculations in coaching it. When are people going to wake up? I am just gobsmacked that people can say this now? The coach is on the public record that he made mistakes. In my view, he has a year now to prove himself. He has had significant opportunity to actually shape the squad and who is in it. If he doesn't take it to top 4 at least, he has to take some real responsibility.

We didn't recruit one signle player, and every other team improved.

I admit, I was one of those who thought we could win the premiership, but teams learnt how to play against us. I don't think we went forward in any aspect of our play last year. We needed to change some things and improve on the things that we were good at, but it didnt happen.

Recruiting new players was not necessarily required for improvement. If the coaching was good, they could have developed the talent coming through... in fact, that was THE PLAN. The coaches didn't execute it. The coaches decided there was no need for external recruitment, despite losses.

This is why I find the obsessive support of our coaches as somewhat bewildering. I am supporting them to show what they can deliver next season, but, frankly, they haven't delivered up to the high standards of this club. The Raiders are winners.... well we are supposed to be. If we keep putting up with results like 8th, 6th and 8th, we will lose all crowd support. We need to be a lot more successful.
