The end for Captain Caylo

Theres been a few threads lately about Cayless and his last game, i just want to show my appreciation to someone i have grown up watching captaining our great club.
Now he hasnt allways been the most popular figure around here for many different reasons, some people think he isnt big enough or too slow etc.
For me one of the big reasons Caylo has been such a great captain is because of the fact even though he isnt the biggest or strongest forward out their he has alot of heart and plays with alot of passion and pride in the blue and gold jersey. He leads by example and will be very hard to replace.
I know last year was on the back of guys like Hayne and Moi Moi but i think alot of people seem to forget the fact that Caylo has had a big imput into our younger guys making sure their head is screwed on properly.
Since i can remember watching the eels Cayless has been the captain of our club and like someone on here referred to him will be known to me as "captain".
Saturday night we farewell a legend of this club, people who want to question a player who has captained the team for 220 odd games and think he isnt a club legend for that alone i dont know what makes you a club legend then. I will be their but im sure people who cant make it will go to their local or tune in at home and will watch his final game. I hope their is a packed house for him he really deserves it.
There is so much that can be said about this guy, please put in some comments of your own about how you feel about tomorrow night and also how you describe his career...
Caylo you will go down as the longest serving captain of our club and obviuosly a very respected figure in the club, you will be strongly missed and i and i think all the supporters wish you the best with the after football career and hope we still see you around the joint next year.
CAPT CAYLO

I still recall when he was named Captain, I think it was that Dymock or umm was it Pay? Didn't want it.

I recall thinking, gee that's a bold move, I am happy to say that imo it has paid great dividends for the club. He really is a class act.

I agree there has been times when his work doesn't seem to have a great an impact on a match as what you'd get from some impact forwards ie Fui and Thaiday spring to mind, but no one could question the amount of times he put his hand to do a run.

I'll miss seeing him run out, there was a sense of comfortableness in seeing him lead out the team.

Good Luck Caylo.

Was Jason Smith and Jim Dymock who were the obvious choices and turned it down. Dean Pay was the previous captain and mentored Cayless through as a young prop.

I remember being shocked and disappointed that we had 2 senior players in that position refusing such a role, but in the main, we've done well out of it in fast tracking a great young local junior.

Good thread and well done to a great and loyal servant of the Parra Eels.

Caylo you have frustrated me at times with your style, but I can safely say there's no one I'd have rathered lead our side during your reign.

We will miss you, whether it's watching you play, watching you firing up the boys behind the posts, or walking off with your head steaming after a rough and tough stint in the middle.

You are a legend of Parramatta and it's been an honour watching your entire career.

Will Caylo be doing a lap of honour after the game?

Concerns me we are letting kiddies on the field after the game, so he might no have the chance too

I think out of respect, this letting people on the field thingy shouldnt be done on this occassion, or at least after cayless has done a lap

I'm absolutely gutted we have to send him out before a finals. Longest serving captain, one of our most inspirational players and for 25 rounds the entire club just spent their time on their asses saying 'whatever'. I see this bloke giving in his best effort as a leader and a player for the past 10 years and the club could barely do the same in his stead.

For the sake of everyones pride and passion, I hope the boys send Caylo off on the best possible win.

Im gonna miss Nathan, he's lead by example over the years and shown what a true loyal player he is to our club.

Deserves to be ranked amongst the legends of our club, Kenny, Sterling, Price, Thornett, Cronin, and current legend Hindmarsh.

He's blue and gold through and through. Played junior footy at Parramatta, and opted to play for New Zealand rather than NSW and Australia, and never let the black and white jersey down. Played a really good role in the World Cup and was so proud he led them to victory. Holding the trophy was a special moment. Wouldve been a lot better holding the NRL trophy. What a shame really, all the years and no premiership.

But nevertheless, he deserves to go out a winner this Saturday night.

C'mon boys do it for Cayless.

I remember his first match in 1997, didnt play too many minutes, but really showed potential in 1998, especially after that bad injury against Manly. To come back from that and play well in the semi's was just something. I knew he was gonna go well in the latter years.

Since taking over as captain he has really stepped up.

Sure he didnt do the great stuff and didnt seem big enough, but he was important to Parramatta. A lot of people dont realise when he was off the field, we didnt have that leadership which was needed.

Took us to 2 Grand Finals. And plenty of finals matches.

All the best Nathan.

I hope there's a huge crowd to give him the send off he deserves!

Spoke to Ticketek and they said there's about 1800 tickets left in the Northern Terrace, 1700 in the Southern and then theres availabilities on the far corners of the rest of the terraces. So it shouldn't be too bad of a crowd unless it rains!

It is quite strange to think that many Parra supporters have NEVER known another player being captain of the side.

Well i was too young when there was another captain, so since the day i started following footy and supporting parra Cayless has always been captain. So you can imagine how emotional i am about Saturday! I feel like a huge change is happening in my life ( lol its obvious i need to get out more).

I can't praise Cayless highly enough - your captain doesn't have to be your best player or do anything fancy.

I think we are really going to miss him next year and when Hindy retires (lets not think about it), we have a huge leadership void to fill.

its going to pain me to tears tonight to think that this is the last time that Nathan Cayless leads out the Parramatta EELS - he has been simply.....inspirational.....

some people really don't know what they have got until its gone and some people who have continually bagged, under-estimated and undervalued this great player, clubman and captain are going to realise their error one day......
