LOCAL junior Shaune Corrigan last night sent a compelling message to NRL talent scouts with a hat-trick of tries including a 99-metre effort in The Entrance's Jim Beam Cup grand final triumph.
The Central Coast youngster kicked off the scoring in the preliminary final curtain-raiser against Sydney Bulls with an early touchdown then hammered home his team's advantage in the second half.

The Bulls were on the attack and trailing just 18-8 when Corrigan swooped on a loose ball and raced into the clear. Bulls Luke Millwood, Puna Koroibulieka and Toufic Nocolas all tried to reel him in and all failed as he burnt off the cover defence in one of the great tries to be seen at the Sydney Football Stadium during September.

The converted try gave The Entrance a 24-8 lead with just 18 minutes to go and it was one they would not surrender.

Halfback Millwood saluted the crowd as he dotted down between the posts with five minutes left after prop Courtney Rolff skittled defenders like nine-pins before a one-handed off-load.

Earlier Entrance stalwart Alex Moore stepped inside three defenders to get his side's third try after Corrigan's double to open the game, the halfback's conversion of his own touchdown making it 18-0 after just 23 minutes.

The David Bayssari-coached Bulls had their chance to hit back before the break. They managed one try through centre Nathan Ford but he remonstrated with a touch judge when he waved out another would-be four points in the corner as the siren sounded.

After halftime, Sydney had another try denied in similar circumstances but with Ford's second in the 55th minute there was still a glimmer of hope - until Corrigan's heroics.

The second Jim Beam Cup premiership for a Central Coast side was not without it's ill-tempered moments. There was a scuffle following Corrigan's first try and another broke out six minutes short of the break.

Ford completed his own hat-trick with seconds left after some neat handling, five-eighth Nathan Wynn converting from the sideline.
