The finals series

So far we have seen Ben Roberts, Ray Cashmere, Jeff Lima and Michael Crockett all feature in the semis. All deemed not good enough by Tom and Ronald whilst tards like Morris, Fitzy & O'Hara were. We are screaming out for go forward and we let a player like Lima go who is a walk up start in the 17 of the biggest specials for a comp in 15 yrs (brisbane 92). Too sh*t a trainer for Shines, yet apparently a good enough player for Bellamy in a side that has lost 3 games this season. More astute retention. Still, thankfully we have junior burger for 3 yrs

Ronald probably paid for the Falou family to move so junior burger was given a rails run

I agree with some of these sentiments, but not the McDonnell one. Put him on the wing outside of a player such as Israel Folau and i think you`d find that Shannon McDonnell would seem like Kerry Beaustead at his best ???

Please vicious he has played outside the likes of Benji, Prince, Hodgo, Fats, Collis etc and still looked a clown in all but 2 of his 23 top grade matches (penrith away in 06 and parra away in 06)

Haha. I knew that would get you fired up. He was still a 1 try in 2 games international dual premiership winner. Turner has also played outside an overrated lug in Matt King, MAtt Geyer (when centre) and Anthony Quinn. HArdly Hodges and Gasnier are they

We`ll just have to agree to disagree, but i know that Shannon McDonnell is capable of cutting up the very best of defences when playing confidently. As for winning Premierships, that doesn`t doesn`t necessarily make you a quality player, just look at players such as Daniel Fitzhenry and Shane Perry, not forgetting the infamous Mark O`Neill !!!

McDonnell may one day be a good winger. He is too small to be a fullback though. You might scream "Brett Hodgson" but Hodgson makes up for his lack of size with other attributes, such as playing five-eighth in attack. Junior Burger does none of the sort.

Junior Burger is a excellent fullback and IMO should never be considered as a winger, but he just cant seem to bring that form to 1st grade. I think his attrocious record for playing 1st grade would have more to do with the powers that be attempting to fast track his career at a young age. If he doesn't play 1st grade for seasons 2006/2007, he doesnt have the scrutiny underneath the microscope. If he developed properly over time, he probably comes into 1st grade in seasons 2008/2009 and be a more confident and much better matured player. Trust me, i have constantly watched him single handedly tear oppositions apart in PL for the past couple of years.

There have been plenty of players who were outstanding in PL but could never perform in FG. I think Junior Burger is one of those. Hope I'm wrong though, because we are stuck with him for another three years.

Junior Burgers only chance IMO is if they reduce the interchange down to 8 per game. That way the smaller zippier players will be worth alot more. Our smaller forwards will be an asset and Shines will come out saying he knew this rule change would happen and it was part of his grand plan all along.

Just a quick obsevation on the weekend games
1--.davey crockett had a good game, made a couple of big tackles
2---Cashy was great had to dig deep after Carl Webb got injured--big effort
3-- Benny Roberts close to the dogs best, kicked well and was ellusive with the ball
4---Jeff Lima was doing two hit ups in every set was great

And you know what--if we still had them they would be in reggies because the brain trust dosnt rate them--

i agree with you 3/4's
i thought crocket had a crap game, was out of position a few times, went missing when mannering thru a miracle ball to his wing to find him wandering around mid field after the ball dribbled out to touch.

and yes
cashmere and lima are both good forwards, and are missed and i doubt are on big money
and robberts is a pretty classy half option.

Don't know if any here has read Big League this week, but there is an article on Ray Cashmere, where it talks about how he was struggling to get a permanent role in the Wests Tigers starting squad, so he continue working full time away from football, and then tried to fit in as much football and training as he could around it. He struggled to keep up the workload of both, so he stopped full time work and cut back to casual hours, to allow him to concentrate on his footy more.

"There were a couple of other blokes in the team that were in a similar position and decided that it wasn't financially viable so they gave up to concentrate on their work career. But I took a gamble and it worked well until the end of 2004 when Wests told me they didn't want me anymore"

He decided to play some footy in France the next year, do some travel then come home and not worry about professional footy anymore, he'd even decided to play Group 6 with Thirlmere.

Then the Tigers decided they needed him as they made it to the 2005 finals, yet didn't use him, and released him again, Cowboys snapped him up and viola, our management f**ked up big time yet again.

Agreed. Still ropable about WT passing on Cashmere, not once, but twice. For pitiful $$$. Showed awesome promise. He is a big unit, runs like a bull, defends with attitude, and has a mean offload to boot. WT said no, to a puny contract, and yet upgraded overvalued players, who have done little since. Even after 05, a couple, maybe a few, were fortunate to have an average club contract in 1st grade, let alone a $$$ upgrade. WT needed beefy props, with some go forward and offloads, and turned down a guy who would love to play with the team, for little more than beer $$$. This sort of thing indicates that the process of recruitment-retention-upgrades-extensions needs an overhaul.
