They "analyse" the weekends matches for all of 3 minutes.

We need a show that talks about the NRL.

Just watched 15 minutes of the start. Hooper did an ok job tried to explain ASADA mess. Beau Ryan segment on Canberra was rubbish. Not funny and way too long. The show is just filler time between TV ads. cut it to 1.5 hrs and less crap would be shown, plus review upcoming games. For me format should be, top story that is in news. Review highlights and low lights from previous rounds. Some light fluffy stuff, funny photos etc. interview a few players, a coach. Run a story on say regional rugby league or league in other States. Then more light stuff, how about a band or music act? What about rumour mill sequent??Finally wrap with the weekend review that could be over 2 segments.

How about the people who go to watching the taping of it on a Thursday night after the footy. Wouldn't get out of there until after midnight...

Do they shoot it out of order now there is a Thursday night game on? Like, do they shoot all the interviews, perfect partners, beau ryan stuff, kick for cash and crack a fatty earlier, then do the game reaction live and air the rest on delay? It seems kind of rough to keep the audience there till midnight.

CHANNEL Nine sports journalist and NRL Footy Show presenter Erin Molan has made her first public statement since quitting the Kyle and Jackie O Show over inappropriate and sexist questions.
Molan, 26, quit the controversial radio show after she was asked by the hosts whether she had a boob job and what sportsmen she has had sex with.
During an appearance on the Footy Show on Thursday she said the situation had been made more difficult because her family had been brought into it, but she encouraged women to walk away from situations where they were being disrespected.
“To every young woman out there and every person out there, you determine your worth and if you feel you’re ever in a situation where you are not being treated with respect or the way you are being treated is not acceptable to you then you have every right to walk away and every right to stand up for yourself,” Molan said.
The audience responded with loud applause and Paul “Fatty” Vautin expressed his support, saying that she had made the right decision as the questions were “inappropriate”.
Molan did not want discuss the issue further but said she had received overwhelming support and wanted to thank those who had reached out to her.
As reported by The Australian, Kiis FM management and producers were forced to apologise to the TV star after she was subjected to inappropriate questions live on air about how many sportsmen she has had sex with and whether she has had a boob job, before Kyle accused her family of being cocaine addicts.
The segment, which was called “Let’s get to know Erin”, was meant to feature on the radio show weekly but Molan has refused to appear on the program again after her negative experience on air on Friday August 1.
The 30-year-old was left puzzled and offended after a producer put through a call in which a listener asked if she had undergone a boob job recently.

“That is an incredibly personal question,” she said. “You know what ... I’m going to take the fifth on that one and say, ‘You know what, I’m happy with my rig the way it is’’’ she added.
Molan was clearly miffed, saying “that is a weird opening question,” before asking whether the caller was listening to what she said about football on The NRL Footy Show.
Kyle then replied: “No one is listening.”
The next question was about how many famous sportspeople she had slept with before Kyle asked her whether she had dated a specific cricketer and how many cricketers she had “been with”.
Molan also revealed her siblings were a teacher, a lawyer and a pilot, to which Kyle said; “They’re probably all coke-heads.”

Even Jackie O could see how inappropriate the segment had become and she begged Kyle to “stop” and “let her off the hook”.
“I think she’s been grilled enough already,” she pleaded.
Molan then joked that she would not be returning to the show after the line of questioning she received.
“And as this will be my final week, I’d like to say thank you so much for having me.
“I can’t (return),” she added. “Will I be subjected to this every week because my mum listens every week?”
Nine publicity tried to downplay the incident saying Molan quit the segment because “the hours were too long for her”.
While a Kiis FM spokesperson added to news.com.au: “Just as Channel 9 publicity said to The Australian, the reason that Erin gave Kiis on why she couldn’t come back on the show was due to her long filming hours. The Kiis segment was very early every Friday morning, so with a full day of work and then The Footy Show on Thursday night, the very early start the next morning for Kiis, when added to her normal Friday work day, and then working much of the weekend covering sport, it was too much.”

Kiis FM also confirmed to The Australian that management apologised to Molan, but Kyle did not.
It was revealed last week by Triple M gossip contributor Supergrass that a female Channel Nine sports journalist had quit the Kyle and Jackie O show due to “repeated probing questions about their sex life”.
Gus Worland, from the Triple M’s Grill Team said Molan was a friend of the show and she had a right to be upset.
“Rightly so,” he said of her decision to quit. “At the end of the day, she’s there to talk about sport, she’s not on there to talk about all that other stuff and good on her for standing her digs, she doesn't want to talk about that and that’s her right.”
While his co-host Mark Geyer added: “Would they ask [a male sports reporter] the same questions that they asked her? Good on her!”.

I would HAVE to think that what you guys both said is the case. If the show was broadcasted live at 9:45pm, it would absolutely ridiculous keeping the audience back until after midnight - especially for those who may've travelled to the studio in Artmaron via public transport, which is pretty much non-existent between midnight and 5am. So, in that case (with the show already being too long in duration as it is), I'm assuming that all the segments that can be pre-recorded are done at about 7:30pm or so, with the last part filmed being the opening segment shown on tv, which would comprise of the post-match discussion of the Thursday night football match immediately after the game has finished. That would be the only segment that would be 'live'. I remember someone on this forum who attended a taping of the show said that when the show went back to being broadcasted live in 2012 (after it had been on delay during 2008-11), the only segment that was pre-recorded was '5 in the bin', approximately 30 mins before the actual show started.

I know that the Newcastle Footy Show a few weeks ago went for nearly 3 hours, however it was on delay as it commenced at 7pm (as I remember seeing that time on the tickets). Considering there were many children who were present that night, it wouldn't make sense to have had the show live at 8:30pm, finishing on tv at nearly 11:30pm on a school night where those kids would have to wake up early the next morning.

I tend to agree that a shortened version would be better. In that time I would restrict Erin Molan to no more than 30 secs of airtime and cut Beau Ryan back to about 2 mins.

THIS.

I've been crapping on for ages that making Erin a permanent panelist this year was a mistake, and Yvonne Sampson should've got the gig if Ch9 wanted a female opinion on the panel - not because she is beautiful, but she has done a far better job on the show whenever she's been there on the panel. Her interview with Will Hopoate was absolute class. Her presentation, interviewing skills and knowledge of RL far exceed Molans, yet Ch9 either don't seem to appreciate talent when they've stumbled upon or they flog it like a dead horse. In the case of Yvonne, it's the first option.

Also, if Ch9 think Beau Ryan is the next Matty Johns they can keep dreaming. Beau has had his moments in the "Beau Knows" segment (which is the VERY MOST I would've kept him on the show for: to do that segment, rather than including him as a pannelist), but a lot of his material just completely bombs, and I'm sick and tired all these SBW/Sam Burgess/Kevin Rudd TV gags. Talk about flogging a dead horse! I've said this before and I'll say it again - Matty was no comic genius, but most of his sketches on TFS didn't drag on monotonously like Beaus.

And regarding the Big Marn, although he has toned down on his 'fat man' schtick, he should've just been kept for the "Small Talk" segment rather than including him as a permanent panelist.

Brett Finch....Ch9 are really scraping the bottom of the barrel with that. Out of all the ex-players they could've chosen......

Overall, the biggest problem to start with is that there are way too many people on the panel, and as a result the quality of the discussion and flow of the show suffers. Reminds me a lot of when Beauty and the Beast expanded a panel of 5 to 7. Should be no more than 4 or 5 permanent panelists (which would include Fat and Slats) throughout the show at most.

I was set to watch the show last night once Hooper appeared , I switched back to Law and Order SVU....

I simply don't understand how all these Telegraph 'hack journos" continue to rear their ugly heads and score one media gig after another, yet people like Jimmy Smith with genuine media talent get left with the crumbs on the table. I have to laugh how Hooper was separated from the rest of the panel, made to look like he was someone "important" doing that "exclusive breakthrough" and was laughing my guts off at the newspaper headlines shown on the screen behind him, which were basically from News Ltd journos (felt sick when I saw Rebecca Wilson as one of the writers attributed to the headline).

They "analyse" the weekends matches for all of 3 minutes.

We need a show that talks about the NRL.

I feel sorry for David Middleton. Spends hours researching all these stats, says his bit and the rest of the panel carry on like he doesn't even exist. They don't even engage or include him in the discussion. What a waste.

Regarding the analysis of weekend matches, seriously, the NRL show would make a tenfold improvement if they just did nothing other than copy the way the AFL Footy Show discusses the upcoming matches. At least the Victorians down south don't just quickly skim over the round of matches like the NRL version does (the attitude I feel when I watch the segment with Middeton on is more like "Ok, lets get this segment over and done with as quickly as possible so we can get back to talking about more stupid stuff")

The roast is only on these days to give Sterlo a morning tea break. Take out ad breaks it's about 10 minutes long.

Pointless.

"The show is just filler time between TV ads."

It is all it is.....nothing more - just a money spinner.

..and it's certainly not funny.not anymore

There is a saying - "If you can't tie knots - then tie lots" It reminds me of this show just beating you with more segments cause they don't nail it the first time.

I don't even download it and skip thru it it's that bad

Channel 9 have done research, and it's obviously what the majority of the ppl watching the NRL variety want to watch. It's lowbrow stuff as many on here harp on about. But I watch it, and parts of it are funny, but as you also know the Sunday Footy Show is the more serious one. However, what we need to do it to get more middle class people watching rugby league, that'll change the Footy Show, and make it more like the AFL one.

Tonights show was alright. It ran quicker than usual. It went for two hours. Same with last week. When the Thursday Night Footy isn't on (which is a majority of the time), it usually goes for two-and-a-half hours long week in week out, which was way too long.

On another note, as discussed in here not that long ago, there are too many people on the panel each week. Not needed. Tonight, there were 8 panellists for the whole show (Fatty, Slats, Tallis, James Maloney, Erin Molan, Beau Ryan, Finchy and Big Man). Plus, you had the player who did the "Perfect Partners segment" and David Middleton join the panel at certain times. Also, you have Joel Caine with the Sportsbet garbage. Clearly that's too many people on the show each week.

I'd cut Slats and Brett Finch, who both add nothing to the show at all. Id have Joel Caine not be in the studio and have him doing bet announcements during the ad breaks. That cuts 3 out of the line up.

Id have Fatty as host, Yvonne Sampson (in place of Erin Molan) and Big Man as co-hosts. A fourth rotating panellists to include Beau Ryan and Gordon Tallis. The weeks when Beau isn't on the show, he could do his "Street Talk" and off camera crap. Then you have the space and time to have to interview current nrl players.

Not sure have Middleton, but maybe someone like The Big man do the "novelty stats" to everyone instead?

The problem with the footy show is there is not enough current NRL footy content included in the show,95% of the show is made up of weekly segments that have been flogged to death, while the actual footy is now a bit part of the show.:BDH:
